Driving after vaginal delivery

Hi mamas, anyone have any empowering stories about driving soon (days?) after a vaginal delivery? I've looked up the NHS website and there's no advice that I can see, other than not for 6 weeks after C section. DC1 was born during lockdown so wasn't driving anywhere then....

Isn't it being able to do an emergency stop on how you judge it? A vaginal delivery would probably be alright. Might smart a bit with stitches like.

It's not the driving that's tricky but getting in the car. I recommend sitting down and then swinging both legs in together.

Maybe she's worried because she's intending to push a whole human out of her vagina 🙄

But this happens every second of the day, every day of the year and the world doesn’t stop turning. Barring the unexpected, it’s perfectly normal

Loads of things happen all the time that might prevent you from driving. C-sections being one.

It's not that much of an unreasonable question.

I had to drive to my 'day 2' midwife appointment as they wouldn't come out to the house and my partner doesn't drive! It was a bit uncomfortable to sit down generally (I had stitches) so put a cushion in the car. It wasn't ideal to be honest but doable for short journeys!

I remember driving a couple of days after dc3 was born as I had to go and do some birthday shopping for dc2. Dh kept
telling me to just order online or he’d go out and get what I wanted but I had a strange urge to get out of the house for an hour on my own 😂 I did the knees together getting in and out of the car for months before he was born as I had vile spd and ended up in a weird brace thing - had forgotten about that until now! Was still struggling for quite a long time after the birth although I was told that it usually cleared up almost straight away after delivery.
But I should think if you feel okay then you should be able to drive.

@AbraKedavra that mental image might just get me through labour with the laughter, thanks!!
Mostly wondering because childcare wasn't an issue on DC1, so husband drove us home... then lockdown happened and there was no driving anyway. It would be much easier to drive home from the hospital myself and it's not far away.
Thanks for all the encouraging responses.

I drive the day after giving birth. I had stitches but they weren't sore or painful at all, in all fairness I forgot I even had them. Had such a horrific pregnancy the day after given birth was the best I felt in 9 month. I gave birth at 9 in the evening and the midwife was amazed I was up, showered, dressed and makeup applied ready to go home at 7 the next morning. Unfortunately the shower and makeup in the morning routine didn't quite last in the following weeks / months 😁

Drove home 12 hours after delivery (via Burger King). My insurance said 'when you feel ready'. Boy, was I ready for that meal!

MrsCharlieD · 06/06/2023 22:05

With my second I drove the next day, if you feel fine and no complications then no reason you can't drive.

Erm 2 hours after giving birth to our twins I was driving home to make tea lol

With my fourth baby I gave birth at 8pm on the Sunday night and drive home from the hospital at 11am on Monday morning
