2nd degree tear- not healing

Has anybody got any tips on helping a second degree tear heal. Im a month out from birth and things are still raw and sore. I had an infection which has healed but my perineum is still a raw open wound. I air it, and shower after using the toilet. But i feel like it is never going to close over. The stitches broke down a few days after giving birth. I tried using witch hazel but it irritated it. This morning it was bleeding again. Im so frustrated as i cant get out and about as much as i would like so it is having a bit of an impact on my mood too. Please offer some words of advise on how to help healing...

Have you been to have it checked? You might need antibiotics or possibly more stitches if they dissolved too soon.

This isn't a normal trajectory for healing.

Thanks @oliveandwell . Ive had 3 lots of antubiotics and was back in for iv antibiotics early on as well. They will recheck it in 2 weeks to see if it needs restitched but said the tissue would just break down if they restitched too soon, but im really hoping to avoid that as anytimeive been.stitched after birth it has gotten infected. It is just takimg much longer 2 heal than id like

Oh bless you what a nightmare.

Ok well, I'm a bit of an old hippy so I would take a high strength turmeric supplement, make sure you're on a really good methylated multivitamin (think biocare do a good one), lots of vitamin c and zinc. And obviously a nutrient dense diet where you can manage it with a newborn!

You can also get specific postpartum teas which might help (can't hurt).

And you can get herbal soaks for your perineum, but not while the wound is open.

Postpartum depletion is really troublesome especially when your body is trying to fight an infection. Your immune system needs lots of support!

Hope that's helpful and it gets sorted soon.

Thanks @oliveandwell ive been staying away from multivitamins as ive found they make me a little constipated and that would def make things worse. But maybe give the other stuff a try. I had the same issue with my 1st but wasnt as bad so healed quicker.

You poor thing. Definitely not normal trajectory so make sure you are being looked after.
Apparently in the States they give perineum spray to every new mother: https://assets.viata.be/uploads/cache/product_original/img/product/la/ns/lansinoh-biologische-verzachtende-perineum-spray-spray-100ml.99027c.jpg
Avoids having to wipe!

Hello!

I’m 7 weeks PP and needed an episiotomy due to forceps, had a second degree tear too!
Im only just starting to feel better, i was sore for weeks and my stitches also dissolved far too early leaving my episiotomy cut open in certain points.
the midwife did say she would consider sending me to be re-stitched but wanted to see if it would heal on its own first which it has but has just taken a long time and many weeks of discomfort!

Hopefully you heal soon! X
