Hi, sorry for the graphic photo but just wondering if this looks normal for two weeks post section? Contacted GP today and they said didn’t look infected (was a phone appt so this was based on photos and my symptoms) but not sure if I should push for a second opinion. Redness has all appeared since Friday when I was discharged from midwife. Thank you!

Looks
Normal unless there is any oozing / discharge smell just keep it dry and clean

JeepersCreeperrs · 16/05/2023 22:35

Any increased pain, discharge, smell?

Missingmyusername · 16/05/2023 22:35

Looks really good to me, nice and neat. Gosh mine looked awful compared to that. Is it hot, painful?

TomatoSandwiches · 16/05/2023 22:36

Looks OK yo me, keep it clean and dry, if you have a bit of a tummy that goes over then tuck a sanitary towel over it so it doesn't get sweaty Skin on skin iykwim?

Springbaby2023 · 16/05/2023 22:37

Thanks everyone for your reassurance!

No increased pain and not hot to touch.

@TomatoSandwiches definitely have an overhang so been trying to air it today more.

Had 2 c sections here…

that looks really good. Just make sure you’re washing the area 2x a day, and lying back on the bed for 20 mins on the bed after each wash to allow the wound to air

Sunshinegirl82 · 16/05/2023 22:41

Sometimes with the swelling the skin can get irritated by getting a bit moist and rubbing together. I'd try keeping it as dry as possible and letting the air get to it as much as possible.

Are you due to see your midwife or health visitor at all soon?

DeadButDelicious · 16/05/2023 22:42

Looks good to me! Seconding @TomatoSandwiches as well, stopping it getting too sweaty really does help!

Springbaby2023 · 16/05/2023 22:51

@AHelpfulHand thank you, I started airing it yesterday, wasn’t aware to do that before. It looked a lot better last week which was why I’ve been worrying a bit.

@Sunshinegirl82 No unfortunately not, midwife discharged me on Friday and said all looked good, it’s since then the redness below the wound has appeared.

Mine looked similar to that and it was fine. It healed really well and nearly 5yrs on you can barely see it.

mightymam · 16/05/2023 23:00

Absolutely normal. I used to put a flannel facing inwards on the wound during hot weather to soak up any sweat and then air the wound out every time I lay down.

CorneliusFinnegan · 16/05/2023 23:27

I used a (cloth) postpartum/ sanitary pad on mine to sort of tuck in the overhang which helped to relieve it a little.
