Hi, just wondering if any of you wise chickies on here could let me know if it is normal for my stitches to still feel sore and tight 12 days after giving birth?

Also, it feels like my SPD is coming back, i presume it's as everything moves back in to place so not too worried. Just really look forward to the day my lady bits go unnoticed by me once again!

Totally normal...sorry. My stitches were annoying me until they came out after four weeks...again, sorry. Most people don't have annoying stitches for that long though and my MIL (a midwife) said that she would have snipped them to stop them annoying me so much if she had been around.

Thanks, good to know not just me!

Am pretty sure (tho probbaly still under the influence of G&A) that the midwife said she had done them all inside and i wouldn't need them removed, presuming then they'll dissolve...

Wish i'd have paid a little attention!!

blondie my stitches (all 12 of them) still felt tight after about 2 months and 10 of mine were internal so wouldnt be removed either. it is totally normal and if they are still feeling sore etc i would 100% recommend lavender oil on a sanitary pad with warm water and sit on it for a little while and it will help with the healing and has antibacterial properties so will help keep away infection etc (unfortunately it will make your fanjo smell like an old ladies handbag but it will help)
hope you feel better soon

If it doesn't get any better get your mw or gp to look. I have looked after many women who were told that they did not need to have them taken out, but sometimes one or two were done a little bit too tightly and snipping them out can make a huge difference. A lady once gave me a box of chocs just because I had taken out one stitch which had been causing her so much pain. Normally most stitches are done inside but two or three bring the skin together. It is difficult to get the tension right sometimes although obviously most mw's will try to leave them loose enough to be comfortable but still hold it together.

Hello blondie, my stiches were fine first and then about 10 days after the birth I experienced tightening. The midwife was still visiting at this time so I asked her. She said it was a good sign that things are healing well. She said the scar tissue grows back a little tighter at first, and then obviously stretches with movement and then feels much better. After another few days, the sensitivity reduced again and never had any other tightening sensations from then on (except when marital relations were resumed, and was a bit "ouch" during and after sex)

I took baths with lavender and tee tree oil every day for the first 3 weeks. For one, these baths were very relaxing for me, to take time out from newborn and two, helped me keep nice and clean to help my stiches heal.

This sounds normal, i walked round for weeks thinking my fanny was about to fall on the pavement. Just keep an eye (with a mirror) that they haven't stiched too tight, this may need looking at by midwife or GP, this could be really uncomfortable for you.
