Unfavourable cervix 41wks, induction failure?

I am being induced at 41 weeks due to baby measuring large. Pessary inserted this afternoon, mw said cervix was posterior and unfavourable. Will move onto gels if no progress with pessary.

Really want to avoid instrumental/emergency csection/baby(&mum) distress etc through long induction process if baby is just not ready to be born yet. At what stage have others drawn a line under the induction escalation if labour just wasn't progressing? Are there any key questions I should ask the midwife about this? Many thanks

It's a tricky on. With your first baby you want everything to go according to plan. If often doesn't.

I would ask them how long things can be expected to start moving after induction. What are the next steps if it doesn't work. What are the time scales, how long are they going to leave you keep trying with Induction. Will they be monitoring the baby constantly?

A CS is more difficult to get over, but it's not all bad.

I have just had a prolapse bladder repair. My dd was born at 42 weeks, Induction failed, episiotomy and forceps delivery. My poor vagina never recovered. (15 years ago).
DD2 was an elective CS. Yes I was stiff and sore for longer and obvs lifting and carrying a toddler and a new born was tricky. No more damage done though.

Coming from and intact nether region point of view. Don't be afraid of the CS. It also alleviates the worry you may be feeling. When is it going to happen? Is my baby ok in there?

I've had two inductions with an unfavourable cervix, both at 36 weeks. It worked within 12 hours for me both times.

Good luck!

With me there reached a point where the baby’s heart rate was decelerating in a particular pattern that was concerning. I don’t remember the specifics as he is almost ten now but I remember that it was very clear. It happened quickly and I wasn’t really given the option to keep laboring. I was upset at first because I wanted to avoid a c-section but having a healthy baby was most important and honestly it wasn’t nearly as bad as I had feared.

Better for you if they decide induction isn't working at the start, nothing worse than being exhausted after an induced labour for it to fail & end up with an emcs. When they next examine you, ask what the chances of induction being successful & if they would recommend a C section. Are you actually in hospital or have they given you the pessary & sent you home? From me being given the gel, it was 24 hours before they could break my waters.

Thanks very much everyone for the advice/ experiences. Really helpful. Will see how things progress today.

@Nat6999 I was able to come home after pessary insertion so got a good night's sleep in my own bed. Had some period type pains so far. Agree, I'd prefer to not have an emcs and make an earlier judgement call to have a slightly more scheduled cs if things are really not working after several days/ gels. Have some good questions for midwife later. Thank you!
