How do I pack my hospital bag when I still need to use all of the stuff!?

I’m a bit confused and am probably putting far more thought into this than needed šŸ˜‚

I am packing my bag to take to the hospital for when our little girl arrives so we can just grab it and go whenever needed. We have a few times over the next few weeks where we will be staying away from home and would like to have it to hand rather than have to worry about getting back to the house to pick things up before going to hospital.

But…I’m confused about how you pack a bag to have on standby? Do you buy a whole set of things that just stay in the bag until labour? I’m already finding it hard to have enough things to wear as it is now I’m feeling pretty massive, if I have to pack up my maternity nightie, joggers, dressing gown, slippers etc for the hospital I’ll have nothing to wear!

I have put my toiletries into travel bottles in a wash bag so that’s not a problem and baby’s things are all packed but it’s more the clothes for me I’m unsure on. What did you do when you packed your bag?

Depends if it's a few hours or days that you'll be in. Surely your partner will be able to pop home or to the shops if you've forgotten anything

Just pack an old t shirt and big pants and old loose pyjama in the bag.
So if no time to pack more you have something for the ward. Some old flipflops or old slippers.

More likely you have. A few hours early labour at home and can pack any extra or instruct dh

I'm a midwife and pretty much all women come in having been to Primark to get a cheap nightie for labour and some pyjamas for afterwards. If they get ruined then they can just get thrown away. Unless you are expecting to be staying in for a longer time you won't need loads of changes of clothes, and as another poster said, your partner can always pop home to get you more of you unexpectedly stay for longer.

Thank you for your replies! I think I will just go and buy a few bits to have in the bag. My husband doesn’t drive so popping back might be a bit tricky but I’m sure we will figure it out.

I packed a couple of items of my clothing but wrote a list that I stuck to my hospital bag as a reminder of everything I needed to put in when labour started. Then just packed those bits on the spot.

Yeah I just got some cheap bits for after. Not very eco friendly but I got cheap knickers which I threw away and some cheap primark/ supermarket nighties, leggings and tops. Even if you were at home you wouldn't really want to think about packing a bag so it's well worth getting some bits but you shouldn't need much - good luck! X
