Contractions that I couldn't feel at all?!

Just wondering if anyone else has experience of this..

I was 35 weeks yesterday. Had an odd pulsing pain on and off all day yesterday so gave mfau a call and they told me to come in for monitoring (last birth was emcs so they wanted to check due to risk of uterine rupture).

While hooked up to the machine it was showing strong contractions but I could not feel them at all - literally no pain, no tightness, no backaches, nothing. The pulsing pain was obviously not related as it didn't coincide with the contractions on the machine. They put me back on the monitor for an hour and no more contractions. Was seen by a doctor who said they were not Braxton Hicks, they were proper contractions and was given the test for preterm labour which was negative. He asked whether I felt the contractions during my previous births, which I did. My cervix was also closed so he sent me home with caveat of obviously come back if anything concerning happens.

In my last labour I had to have emcs as my cervix wouldn't dilate (despite having had many pessaries and the syntocin drip) so not sure how useful the cervical examination is really, but the preterm labour test is supposed to be pretty accurate I believe. Now I'm just feeling a bit worried about not feeling the contractions 😕 and wondered if anyone else might have experienced similar and be able to advise. Thanks for any help!

I couldn't feel early contractions at all with DS - only after they started the induction for him. I only started getting very mild contractions with DD right before they started the monitoring for her induction. It took me until about halfway through my second pregnancy to work out what Braxton hicks felt like. So it wouldn't surprise me if you were having mild contractions and not feeling them but it doesn't mean you're going to give birth imminently!

@TeddyBeans well that's the thing isn't it, I wouldn't be surprised if they were mild and I wasn't feeling them (though I did have some braxton hicks last week and felt them), but the doctor was very surprised that I couldn't feel them as they were showing as quite strong on the monitor

Eh, I was having toco readings of 40-60 and only just feeling them. Everyone has a different threshold I guess. Also I can't remember exactly what the midwife said while I was in labour but it was something about toco not measuring how intense the contractions feel

Interesting about toco not measuring intensity 🤔 mine were mostly between 55-70, but had one that was 74. And didn't feel a thing 🤷‍♀️

We had to leave a.restaurant because I felt pains in the soles of my feet.which I'd had with my first two. They told me after the second birth that I was a rapid deliverer and to come quickly to the hospital as soon as I started.
From leaving the restaurant to the arrival of my son was 40 minutes. I told the midwife I'd had no contractions, only a dull ache in my lower back which disappeared as soon as the baby arrived. I was then up half the night chattering away.,high as a kite.because I hadn't used up all the hormones you produce to get through the birth.
To all the first timers, may you have a birth like mine.

I didn't feel my contractions until after my water broke and I believe they were reasonably strong, though I don't remember the number. So yeah I guess everyone is different 🤷‍♀️

Good luck OP!

I had this. Monitoring showed contractions at 27 weeks but I was blissfully unaware. They carried on off and on until 41 weeks 😯 i did learn to recognise when they were happening - I could see my bump going hard but couldn't feel it. Each time I had to go to hospital to be checked for prem labour - always negative, but 2-3 times a week until I reached 36 weeks then I decided if it was labour, I likely didn't need special care so stopped going. He was delivered by my husband at home after a very short labour - midwife and ambulance didn't make it in time 😁

It was the easiest labour of all my children though!
