C Section tomorrow morning - handhold

Having my first child tomorrow morning, and I'm absolutely terrified

I don't even think I'm scared of the surgery itself, more just the fact my life is about to change forever. Which seems silly cause I've obviously been preparing for this moment for 9 months.

Everyone keeps telling me how exciting this all this, but right now all I feel is absolute terror. I'm thinking there must be something wrong with me?!

Is it normal to feel this scared about having a baby?

best of luck OP! I was bricking it when I went into labour with my son, it’s normal to be scared of change, but I wouldn’t go back to my life before for the world now. You got this!

Toothed · 16/04/2023 21:48

It’s normal! You’ll be ok, congratulations in advance! I think it’s often the people that don’t anticipate a huge change of lifestyle that are the most shocked.

MeiMeiSushi · 16/04/2023 21:48

It's weird but you get used to your new life very quickly and then you won't be even remember what life was like before.

Good luck and congratulations

ShirleyPhallus · 16/04/2023 21:50

Totally normal. It’s really easy for everyone who has been through it to say relax and enjoy it because we are on the other side and can only see the joy of having had the baby, but when you’re about to give birth it’s terrifying

I will just say - try and get some sleep tonight, then enjoy tomorrow. It’ll be absolutely magical. Lots of luck to you

Dontbelieveaword · 16/04/2023 21:50

There is absolutely nothing wrong with you. It's completely natural to feel terrified, a little human is about to join the world and become your whole world tomorrow. Congratulations, wishing you all the best 💐

As Tom Jones would say 'It's not unusual'!

But I'm a great believer ir Dr Spock's advice 'Trust yourself, you know more than you think you do' when it comes to being a parent.

Good luck, hope everything goes well for you, and congratulations!

I was exactly the same for my planned c section first child too ! It the most amazing scary life changing moment but embrace every second 🥰

I walked into the delivery room, saw the little plastic cot ready and thought “oh god, MY baby will be in there soon” and suddenly it because really real. And I wasn’t sure it was something I was ready for. I think it’s completely normal OP- it’s a good idea to ‘keep an eye on your thoughts’ like this though, especially when you’re postnatal.

Yes l felt petrified on induction day - l can't even keep a houseplant alive!

But my daughter is 11 now so must be easier than a houseplant!

As soon as they handed her to me, the fear dissipated and ot all came naturally. Do you have family nearby and a supportive partner op?
Good luck for tomorrow, we are gonna need a pic of baby when he/she arrives!

Yeah I have a lovely husband and my mum and step dad around the corner - so I know I'm much luckier than many.

I'm sure all my fears wilt melt away tomorrow as soon as he's in my arms. I just can't get out of my head how life changing and overwhelming it actually all is!
