Hi there

Has anyone got any information or experience on this? Feedback from those people who have practised it would be most appreciated.

Hello hello,

I did a hynobirthing course during my first pregnancy - didn't get to use it for the birth as such as my dd was born by c-section at 37 weeks, but I'm certain the relaxation techniques i learnt on the course did help me then. Our tutor was a midwife and she also covered labour/delivery/after-care on the course which i found really useful as i didn't go to ante-natal classes. You'll need to spend some time practising the relaxation/meditation techniques at home so they become second nature and you're encouraged to take your birth partner on the course so they can be familiar with how it works. I really enjoyed the course and would recommend.

Hiya,
I didn't do a course but I used the Natal Hypnotherapy CDs from 16 weeks and the preparation for birth one from about 34 weeks and I swear they helped me feel calm and confident that my body could just do it. I had a quick and easy normal delivery with my first and will definitely be using the CDs again this time. I would recommend them to anyone - even if you fall asleep or think you're not taking it in, it's a chance to totally relax for half an hour every day. They also do one if you know you're having a c-section. Load on iPod and drift away before bed - bliss!

Hypnobirthing is amazing. I would recommend it to everyone who is pregnant.

You would prepare and practice for your driving test! So, why not do the same for you and your baby.

I do not have a high pain threshold! And the whole 3 days of 'surges' and my 1st birth was a fantastic experience.

Hypnobirthing uses a mixture of affirmations, self-hypnosis and breathing techniques, you are in total control, nothing like stage hypnosis.

Hello,
Well, I've never posted on MN before, but really wanted to reply to this.
I did a hypnobirthing course when pg with dd2. I was a bit sceptical about it all, but would have tried anything to avoid a repeat of my first labour (and eventual c-section).
The course itself was a bit hit and miss (not helped by husband snorting with derision at times) but we sort of adapted it to take on board the bits we thought we could do, and the end result was truely fantastic. I really enjoyed my second labour (15 hours, VBAC with ventouse) It certainly wasn't pain free, but it was a really positive experience where I felt completely calm, in control and on top of the pain throughout. I would say if you can afford it, do it.

I have seen a woman use it for her labour and was very impressed - it was her first baby and she was in for a post-dates indusction. I gave her gel and told her to buzz if she needed anything, then left her to it for the night. I heard nothing and assumed she was sleeping so tiptoed in about 6:00am - she was awake and contracting. Very calm. She was 6-7cm when I examined her.
