Freezing cold three days after c-section

Is is normal to be absolutely freezing cold on day three? I feel like I’m running a fever but the thermometer says I’m normal and I’m struggling to get warm even under a scalding hot shower.

Not sure if this has an impact but my milk has just come in today but I’m bottle feeding so my boobs are rock hard with nowhere for it to go. This is my second c-section but my first baby was premature so although I remember feeling physically terrible, I was more concerned about my DC in NICU so it’s difficult to remember if I went through this.

Any tips to start feeling much better? Very supportive DH but he owns a young business and it’s difficult for him to take loads of time off (and will likely have to head back next week).

A lot of strange things happen in those early days and I felt cold whilst the spinal block was easing off.

but I’ve never felt really cold on day 3 after my 2. worth going back to triage to check in case you have an infection

WoeBeCome · 14/04/2023 18:33

I didn’t have that. No temperature issues at all. I’d speak to a doc

Coraline353 · 14/04/2023 18:35

I didn't have a c section but do recall feeling shivery but also having night sweats around the time my milk came in.

That said if you're not sure do seek medical advice.

OhLookCriedNed · 14/04/2023 18:37

This happened to me after a c section. Not sure if it was day 3, but it was definitely in the first week after. Felt like I was coming down with the flu. Had to leave the baby with my DP and went to bed. Woke up feeling fine the next morning though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

you need to seek medical advice.
don't delay.
ring 111.

Fandabedodgy · 14/04/2023 18:48

I had that plus very strong shivers with both sections.

It's post surgery + milk coming in + hormones.

Miscellaneousme · 14/04/2023 18:49

Phone your maternity unit, this could be a sign of infection.

BertieBotts · 14/04/2023 18:56

I'd call the ward because although it's unlikely, it can be a symptom of sepsis.

BringItOnxxx · 14/04/2023 19:02

I always think it's best to first rule out Sepsis in situations like this.

mackthepony · 14/04/2023 19:03

Go to the hospital

Not normal at all

Your dh's business isn't that important!!

Ovaeasy · 14/04/2023 19:05

I was very very shivery around day 3 with both dc (cs births) as my milk came in. However, please ring your midwife and get proper medical advice.

Nanna61 · 14/04/2023 19:12

It would be wise to seek professional medical advice.

ChocHotolate · 14/04/2023 19:20

Very likely to be milk fever, but needs serious causes excluded

Cativy · 14/04/2023 23:44

Could it be an infection? Mastitis made me feel cold and like I had the flu...you're still under the care of midwives so call maternity triage and insist on being examined

flipflop00 · 14/04/2023 23:55

It does sound like milk fever :- Google says 'Generally speaking, many moms may havethe chills and have a low-grade fever when their milk first comes in. Usuallythese fevers do not exceed 100.6 to 101 and often last 24 hours.'
But having said that I would still rule out anything nasty. I felt terrible day three and shivery and achy but I tested positive for covid the next day so it was probably that!

Nat6999 · 14/04/2023 23:58

It could be a reaction to the epidural, every time mine was topped up I was shivering like I had the worst flu ever. It also may be withdrawal from the drugs they gave you afterwards, were you given morphine?

Linio · 15/04/2023 00:01

I had really bad shivers one night, the first week after the c section. DH started to worry and was close to calling 999 but it passed. And judging by this thread, it seems normal.

That said, maybe speak to your midwife for advice, to rule out any infection.
