17 hours - contractions still 10 mins apart......

....is there ever going to be an end to this? My contractions aren't really hurting that badly, but I'm really tired and uncomfortable. Called the delivery suite and they said that this is normal for a first baby. Is it really?

yes I believe it's quite common. Have you tried paracetamol to see if you can have a sleep or a bath to either calm things down or get them going?

fugitall · 13/02/2008 23:05

Try to sleep, or at least doze. Wake up for each cx, then relax back to sleep. When you need to concentrate and stay awake you'll be glad of the rest now.

GOOD LUCK!

Remember, when you think "why oh why?" focus on BABY HERE SOON! NEVER HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN! IT WILL STOP SOON! I AM WOMAN! HEAR ME ROAR!

Lulumama · 14/02/2008 09:20

yes, it is the latent phase, this is the start, and you will be in established labour soon !!
second cargirl's advice, your body will let you know when it is time to concentrate..happy birthing x

Yep. I had 16 hour labour with DD (1st) and I was 10 mins apart for first two hours and then 6 mins apart until I pushed dd out.

My contractions never went below 6 mins apart. Though you've prob had baby by now - so congrats!

WOW you are in labour, how exciting! If they are 10 mins apart you have a way to go, the best thing you can do is snatch some sleep as best you can, you will probably have the baby tomorrow now so get some food, bath, put your TENS on and practice your walking sideways up and down the stairs to get baby head down and ready to move.
I had my first 9 months ago and never had regular timed contractions, i am a nurse and was convinced i was about to deliver because of the pain i was in, i was only 2cm and stayed like it for 24 hours, my contrcations were about 8 - 10 mins apart for the whole day and night. The hospital were sick of me!!

You are going to have the most amazing 24 hours of your whole life. Hope it all goes well,

PS Gas and Air is ace fun!

Do you know if you're dilated at all. I had uncomfortable regular contractions, every 3-5 minutes for a week before baby made an appearance. But once strong labour started it was very prductive because of my body preparing for so long. I would definityl advise resting, get on with your night and day as normal as you can. You'll know when its time to go to Hospital. Check you're organised and save as much energy as you can.
Good luck

plussizemummy (sounds like me!) I really hope you have had your baby by now - please let us know.

I love these threads on mumsnet - i get all giddy and start pushing

suzi2 · 20/02/2008 21:39

lol, I get giddy too! I was the same with both of mine plussizemummy. I did that for days (you probably don't want to hear that though...) but it was all worth it in the end. try and rest when you can.
