Torn cervix

My second labour in 2020 was VBAC but I had a tear to my cervix which needed general anesthetic to repair. Has anyone experienced this before? Midwives said they hadn't seen it in combined 80+ years experience.
I'm now thinking about baby number 3 later this year. Has anyone had a tear to the cervix and gone on to have further pregnancies? I'm worried about it being weak and increasing my chances of miscarriage or premature labour.

Hi wiggleyfingers, yes I had a 5cm tear in my cervix in my second delivery, had a big bleed but they managed to repair the tear on the labour ward with me awake so I didn’t have to go to theatre and have general. Seems quite rare as I’ve never met anyone else who this has happened to.

I had concerns about it happening again, but I wanted a third baby. DC3 born 3 1/2 years later with no problems at all - in fact it was the quickest and most manageable labour of all my babies. The only thing that was done differently was they put me on a drip to contract the womb after labour because of previous PPH. Even though that wasn’t really the issue (in that the haemorrhage was from the tear not the womb failing to contract back down after birth). It just meant I was a bit less mobile in the hours after the birth than I would have liked to have been. The DC2 has just turned 20, and I think now the same drug is given as an injection instead during final stage of labour or maybe just after.

wishing you all the best.

Just to say before getting pregnant I did have an appointment with the gynaecologist to discuss my worries, and she was very reassuring. Maybe ask your GP to refer you for something similar?

I had a cervix tear with my second baby. I went on to have a few more babies and it didn't cause any trouble at all. All were term and healthy. As far as I know, I never had another cervical tear.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. So glad to hear you've gone on to have no further problems.

Hello

i had my daughter in November 2021.
my cervix also tore - midwife’s same as you never seen it happen before!
room flooded with doctors etc they couldn’t stop the bleeding so took me into theatre, gave me a spinal block & an hour or so later managed to stop the bleeding. Lost a lot of blood and didn’t think I’d ever want another baby after all of that 😅 but now find myself in a position of wondering if I could ever carry another?! At the time the surgeon said to me if I did ever want another I’d need to speak to a dr first, be under dr care instead of midwife during pregnancy, possible cervical stitch as the likelihood of now having an incompetent cervix would be high 😔 I’ve booked myself in with a dr next month to see if they could do any examinations etc and will go
from there!
the surgeon told me he’d only ever dealt with one other cervical tear but not as bad as the one I apparently had! Not common at all so pretty scary most had no idea what was happening 😅

@lilyroseloves how did you get on with the doctors examination? Crossing my fingers for good news for you xx
