Early Labour - 4 Days Now

Can anyone offer advice? I've had contractions 5-10 mins apart for four days now. I've had maybe 6 hours sleep over the four days and feel like I'm starting to struggle. The contractions feel so intense like my back and hips might explode but I don't seem to be getting anywhere. Lost my mucus plug on day 2 and got hopeful it'd all be over in a day or so but still nothing and starting to feel desperate...

What did your midwife say when you called?

You poor thing. Early labour can go on for a few days unfortunately. Do you know what position your baby is in?

Sorry pressed send too soon! I wonder if baby is not in an optimal position, hence my question. For now, I would take a couple of paracetamol and try to get some more sleep if you can. Have you been eating and drinking plenty? Keep on top of emptying your bladder. Have you called your midwife? You can request a check at any time at the triage maternity department.

I had this exact thing with my first… Regular contractions began one Thursday eve, my baby came next Wed early morning. I sounded just like you. I really feel for you and I hope things are progressing more quickly for you now.

It was so tiring, no one had told me latent labour could go on so long and be so regular. I didn’t know whether to get up and move as much as possible, or to try to rest in case it dragged on even longer.

After 4 days of barely sleeping I saw my midwife for a sweep and contractions got much closer together so went to hospital but continued to dilate really slowly. Long story short, I got an epidural the next morning, put on oxytocin drip and delivered baby pretty calmly some 14h later (but at least could not feel the contractions anymore).

I am so sorry you are going through this, it’s so unfair! You are so strong to have got this far and you will make it to the end. It will be an epic story to tell.

I had a long latent labour. I was being monitored closely for various other reasons but long story short, investigations revealed he was not in a good position to be born vaginally and I had a lovely calm, relaxed csection the next day.
