Gift for sister after Labour

Mumma29x · 29/03/2023 20:36

Hi,

My sister is about to be induced and I would like to get her a little box made up with things that will help her afterbirth.

if anyone has suggestions please let me know what you would have liked as a little pamper box. Thanks

To be fair there was no time for pampering after my son was born so any products other than big thick pads would not have been used by me. Personally I think a snack/food gift or something would be better. Some friends of mine dropped off some brownies and other friends biscuits after DS was born and they went down a treat for a sugar fix!l

Needmorelego · 29/03/2023 20:43

A load of ready meals and snacks
A load of baby wipes
A load of nappies
That's all she will need for the next week or so.

simonthedog · 29/03/2023 20:44

Frozen home made meals is what I would have liked

Username24680 · 29/03/2023 20:46

It’s a lovely thought @Mumma29x 😊 I do agree with @embarrassed23 thought - there wasn’t much time for pampering after my son arrived either 😅
Food gifts would have gone down a treat but in terms of pampering there wasn’t much 😊

Do you live close by? Are you able to help in more practical ways? What about making her some little “vouchers” that she can cash in? 😊

  • Hold baby and let you have a shower/bath
  • Take baby while you nap
  • Cook you dinner/voucher for a takeaway
Oopswediditagain2023 · 29/03/2023 20:49

Food! Those takeaway boxes from supermarkets are great, or you could make a lasagna etc to take over.

Muslin cloths. Lots of.

Boxes of chocolate/biscuits etc

ClaraBourne · 29/03/2023 20:50

I was given a hamper of the food I loved but could not eat when pregnant. Soft cheese, wine, pate. It was lovely.

Oopswediditagain2023 · 29/03/2023 20:50

Also the pampering comments - I did appreciate a nice hand cream as my hands cracked a lot due to all the hand washing after nappy changes! Or a nice smelling shower gel/moisturiser

twoundertwowho · 29/03/2023 20:54

I would have really appreciated this, I had everything I needed for baby, lots of gifts for them, but it's so lovely to think about what Mum might like. Even if she doesn't get a chance to use everything at first!

Maternity pads
Pillow mist
Epsom salts (for a sore vagina)
Hand cream (lots of hand washing involved with newborns so dry hands)
Lip balm for the hospital
Face masks
A peri bottle!
Postpartum tea or a nursing tea (various brands do them)

What a nice sister!

X

My go to if actually visiting is a making a big lasagne and a tray of brownies . Both can be portioned and frozen or eaten asap .

If not able to visit I send brownies from the simply cake co and a deliveroo gift card

For my sister I actually bought her a kindle as she constantly has a book on the go but a kindle was easier to hold while feeding / cuddling .

bravotango · 29/03/2023 21:11

Maternity pads, purple lansinoh nipple cream (if BFing) and a deliveroo voucher! I actually was given a very plain face wash (foaming one from Cerave) and that became a fantastic daily routine to keep me feeling fresh in those blurry first 3 weeks when you've not always got time for a nice long shower etc

Mumma29x · 29/03/2023 21:13

@Username24680 yes I am close by and will be doing everything I can! Thank you I’m going to do that and will print them, that’s a lovely idea!

@twoundertwowho

lovely suggestions and thank you! I will put together a little box of goodies 😘

Kranke · 29/03/2023 21:16

Most people have already bought everything they need by that point. Deliveroo or similar voucher was amazing! I could treat myself without having to lift a finger - no reheating, no getting something out of the freezer, just ordering what I fancy when I fancied it. It was the best present ever!!

Mumma29x · 29/03/2023 21:17

@Racingadmin great ideas! Thank you I will add in Deliveroo voucher too. @bravotango my sis has the cerave one as I bought it a few months ago and she tried it so she got it too 😁thank you for suggestions 😊 Amazon order coming up 😅

@Kranke yeah I wouldn’t have even thought of that but makes sense, brilliant idea 😀

I had absolutely zero time for face masks and pampering. I really didn’t enjoy those types of gifts - unless I had a nanny/milk nurse to give me some time off for pampering! I think I only started using them a year later and donated most of them! If I had a bit of a break, all I wanted was uninterrupted sleep - no pillow spray required!!

DisneyGirl2329 · 29/03/2023 21:20

Ooo I agree with the food. My SIL batch cooked loads of meals for me which lasted ages in the freezer and were such a help. Also unscented shower gel like sanex. After my 3rd degree tear I was told to use unscented shower gel and all the other gifts I had everything was scented!

caringcarer · 29/03/2023 21:36

Make her Shepherd's Pie, Lasagne, Bolognese, Fish Pie all for her freezer. That will give her several days when she won't have to cook when she is shattered. Best gift you could give.

OhThatChicken · 29/03/2023 21:48

My mum in law delivered a large, warm French stick, a wheel of Camembert and a jar of fancy pate and then held the baby while I ate my fill.

Genuinely one of my happiest and most vivid post-labour / early week memories😂

Imenti · 29/03/2023 21:52

Defo food and snacks and if she likes coffee bringing over a nice latte or equivalent from Starbucks / Costa when you visit would be amazing as its hard to get out in those early days and I really missed those!

My friend made up some "cake in a mug" bags which were amazing as well and got my fave biscuits I took upstairs for the night feeds haha.

Large comfy PJs also as she'll need lots of lounge wear and it's nice to put on clean new stuff when you finally get a shower as you can feel quite disgusting after giving birth - Primark ones would be fine!

Hope it all goes well xx

scrivette · 29/03/2023 21:52

Another vote for food! Things that are easy to eat/snack on one handed, biscuits and chocolates were my favourite.

A nice hand wash, fluffy socks or warm wrap for night feeds. I used to like reading whilst I was feeding, so some new books (that can be held in one hand).

Teapleasemilknosugar · 29/03/2023 21:53

I've just opened up a handcream and a 'deep sleep pillow spray' that I got from a friend in a similar post-labour pamper package. Said baby is now 2. 🤭

Helpful alternatives:

Food - homemade stuff that's easy to eat with one hand.
Food vouchers - for Deliveroo/takeaway
Cook vouchers / meal box - www.cookfood.net/menu/meal-boxes/new-parents
A cleaner

Songbird54321 · 29/03/2023 21:55

I was quite poorly when pregnant so couldn't eat any of the stuff I loved so my friend sent me a hamper filled with all my favourite chocolate, sweets, brownies etc and vouchers. I loved it. I agree helping towards meals is the biggest gift you can give, especially if she intends on breastfeeding.
I got a hamper filled with post baby oil and stretch mark creams and all sorts when I had my first and I actually found a bottle in the back of a drawer fairly recently. She's nearly 6. Shows how much I used it 😂

threeplusmum · 30/03/2023 11:56

Amazon I think do a hamper for mothers after birth.

rfr · 30/03/2023 19:13

Didn't have time for beauty pamper things after birth, but some things that were nice necessities:

  • Spritz for bits
  • brownies/cookies etc.
  • take out voucher
  • slipper socks (spent a lot more time on the sofa with cold feet)
  • a book (feeding can be boring but I like to read)
  • dry shampoo was a useful joke present that someone got me
Xx
