C section at 37 weeks?

AliceinSlumberland · 27/03/2023 22:30

Hi all,
Just found out today my c section is being moved forward and will be done at 37+3. Just wondered if anyone had had a section slightly earlier than the recommended 39 weeks and how it went? Baby is a decent size, 50th percentile.

Also need to decide what to do about the steroid injections.

Thanks in advance!

I have a planned c section at 36+3 (twins) and 38w. Totally fine. Had the 38w section last August and was home the next day. Didn’t have steroids for either one. Good luck!

Sorry for typos, should have proof read!

Hi OP, my first born was born at 37 week exactly via c section after my placenta started failing at 28 weeks.

I had the steroid injections at 33 weeks and she was meant to be born then, but they continued to scan regularly until 37 weeks; the steroid injection were stingy but necessary; DD was born underweight but she didn’t need any time in NICU at all, she was slightly jaundiced, but could breath well on her own from the start. I can’t be 100% sure if the steroids helped, but I wouldn’t chance it, I’d have them again in a blink.

Yes, I had a c section at 36 + 2 weeks due to preeclampsia, I had the steroid injections and baby girl was delivered healthy weighing 6lb 2oz.
Good luck
P.S the steroids injection sting like a b%&^h.

Yes no problems at 38 weeks and steroid injections fine too

I had one last week. Consultant advised against injections based on new research. Baby a good weight, came home the next day, he’s thriving.

37 weeks exactly.

Baby was fine, I was fine.

Really wished I had been able to come home to a cleaner and more organized house though but it wasn’t the end of the world.

Unlike a PP, I did have the steroid injections and didn’t have any issues with them. They were to mature DD’s lungs as she was initially expected to be born at 34 weeks, perhaps that made a difference. FYI - they worked, she has excellent lungs that are exercised at volume! 🤣

Yes, originally booked in for 38 weeks, brought forward to exactly 37 weeks. I was HUGE with polyhydramnious, been on hospital bed rest since 36 weeks. Had the the steroids the week before as high risk of premature labour & hospitalised due to high risk of cord coming first if waters broke.

DD was fine, no cause of polyhydramnious found, she weighed 7lb 4oz.

Thanks all, I can’t tell you how reassuring this is. Mines been brought forward due to cholestatis and reduced movements.

@AnneLovesGilbert interesting as this is what has happened to me, I assumed I’d definitely have the steroid injections but consultant suggested the value isn’t worth it post 36 weeks based on new research so now I need to decide what to do.

I had my first at 35 weeks after my waters went, she was expected to possibly come at 32 as I was in and out of spontaneous labour so I was given steroid injections, they were needed and did her the world of good as she was tiny.

My second came at 37 weeks exactly with a section, she is a very well toddler now!
