scared of c section

mrxrsx · 23/03/2023 16:17

I’m scared for my planned c section tomorrow and the complications during/after.

i’ve never really had a major operation before. only grommets when I was 3&4 years old under ga and sedation for a filling. that’s it.

I don’t know it’s not really what the hospital or I want but under circumstances have to do it.

im so nervous

I told the anaesthetist what a terrified mess I was before it and without even saying he was going to be put local in my hand before putting the cannula in. I knew that’s what he was doing as I’d watched wayyy too much on YouTube about cannulas before it as I’d never been in hospital before either. I ended up sort of smiling inside at the fact this lovely man was pandering to me and putting some local in my hand before the cannula, bless him! The cannula was just a big nip, like getting blood taken but takes a few seconds to place. I’m not even worried about that this time and will ask if they can do the local again

You will be fin, e OP!

My main tip would be to stay on top of your painkillers afterwards, even if you think you don't need them. Keep taking them and set a reminder on your phone. You will get sore if you come off them too quickly - but I was fine with just paracetemol and ibuprofen.

Looking forward to a baby update on the thread tomorrow :)

Honestly I’ve had one traumatic VB and an ELCS and the section was so lovely. The team were so kind and it was so calm, I had a lovely cuddle as soon as baby was out and my music etc (neither of which happened with the VB). I’d not had surgery before either but it’s honestly going to be ok. I’m so excited for you meeting your baby!

Climbles · 23/03/2023 22:05

I’ve had a number of surgeries and my two c-sections were totally fine. The op is completely painless and easy. There was a bit of pain after but only for a couple of days and it was very manageable. You’ll be fine and will be snuggling your beautiful new baby soon.

Suzi888 · 23/03/2023 22:06

I’m very squeamish OP, you sound like you may be too. Just let them know, they’ll talk about other things, play music, distract you. It’s over in a flash!

(Some people like a blow by blow account) just say you don’t want to hear or see anything.

It felt like it was all done and dusted in about 15-20 mins. Nothing hurt until after, it’s a bit like you’ve done a 1,000 sit ups. Just very sore and awkward. You’ll be able to move, get up, shower, hold your baby. Good luck! Relax 😊

QueefQueen80s · 23/03/2023 22:39

I loved my c sections! In my case I went to sleep and woke up with a baby twice, no stressful scary births. Perfect.

mrxrsx · 24/03/2023 10:26

Well… an update. They cancelled my c section an hour ago and i’m just waiting for labour at this point induced at 41+3 unless i’m early. I could have tried to elect still I guess but the hospital never really wanted me to have the c section anyway.

Speem donor clearly gave me an std treatable but it was looking like herpes but the results were taking ages to come through. but they literally came through this morning no herpes. I was ready to go but nervous at the same time.
Im now scared for pain, pushing and complications or even an emcs when i guess the elective would have been pain free and unrushed with music and done within an hour but i was still not happy at the thought of a operation and cut open.. hopefully epidural and pain relief works and i manage to push without emcs and minimal tearing/damage and 0 complications. pros and cons to both.

Thank you for the advice and reassurance though. the procedure sounds lovely. ♥️

I had to have one a few months ago. It was an emergency and I always said it was my biggest fear ever. But, honestly it’s not that bad. It really isn’t. It was actually quite a pleasant calm experience considering mine was emergency. The staff are amazing at calming you down. The after is quite hard and painful I won’t lie, but take all the painkillers offered, and rest, but also try and move a bit little and often. I didn’t feel myself till about 3 weeks after, but by 2 weeks I was doing the school run and chores at home ect.. didn’t drive till about 5 weeks but I didn’t need to. So yeah.. coming from someone who was absolutely petrified of it.. it was fine.

I've got a planned C-sec on Monday. My first was an emergency C-sec. I found the operation fine. The recovery wasn't the greatest and it's what I'm dreading next week. I've got a lot of support this time around. Last time it was during COVID lockdowns etc. Have you got support?

i’ll have support from my mum. is a emcs recovery very bad? i could still try to elect but unlikely

My Dsis freaks at just the sight of a hospital but was perfectly ok with her c-section, said she didn't know why she'd been so scared.

Nope. I feel absolutely normal now.

BCxx · 24/03/2023 11:43

Oh sorry things are all up in the air now! If you do still want to elect for a c-section you 100% can. It’s your baby, your body and you choose how to give birth! If you’d rather go the vaginal route I hope it goes well. Birth rights has lots of info on maternal request c-sections, it’s what I had and I was just very firm and clear that was my decision
