Hi

I love to hear from anyone that has given birth or is considering Whipps Cross. I went for one of their tours the other day and have come out thinking that maybe I should have a home birth. Am not sure if I went in with unrealistic expectations of an NHS hospital though, so i would like to here the point of view of others on here.

The lady who wanted to go to Queens but told she couldn't. If this is a big issue for you it's worth contacting one of the senior midwives directly, eg mw in charge of antenatal clinic. What happens in high activity areas is that a cap on "out of area" bookings is brought in during times of high demand. This changes from month to month and you might find some flexibility.

I had my baby there at the end of August and the staff were excellent though incredibly busy. The building is a bit tired, though mainly the ward /recovery rooms - the theatre and delivery suites were fine.

I recommend the private room if you can, they are basic but you have your own loo and shower and a room to yourself.

Post natal care was more rushed and breastfeeding support varies depending on who is on duty.
