placenta recipes, anyone?

EVer since my last (and first) birth, I've regretted not having seen the placenta (it was forceps in theatre with caesarean threatened - all very clinical). I'm definitely putting in my birth plan this time that I want to see it. But I also remember reading somewhere that eating the placenta was supposed to be good for preventing PND, and suddenly found myself the other night thinking about eating it (which I'd always dismissed as a beardy-weirdy, knit-your-own-yoghurt sort of thing to do before!). I just mentioned it to my dh, sure it would freak him out, and to my complete astonishment he was fairly positive, even said he'd eat it too (but drew the line at offering it to friends!!). He told me to ask mumsnet for recipes, so don't let me down!
Out of interest, has anyone here actually eaten theirs? What did it taste like? We went on to have a hilarious conversation about what we'd do with it if we didn't like it - bury it? No, the foxes might get it...burn it? Pour flaming brandy over it, take a picture and use it as a 'xmas pud' image on next years christmas card????

ONly just got a chance to check this thread out - haven't had such a good laugh for ages!!! I especially liked Hester's story of the friend's dh forgetting about the placenta in the shed! But OK, I think the link to the photos put me off... plus the description of the taste as like sponge in menstrual blood - yuck! I was kind of hoping someone would say 'yes i ate mine and it was yummy',but never mind!
I was tempted by the chinese medicine idea of drying it out and taking it powdered, but the little detail of the whole house smelling of baking placenta for 10 hours rather puts a stop to that one methinks.
But I like the idea of placenta prints from the link Levanna posted near the beginning! Not quite sure how it would work in hospital though - I can just imagine the look I'd get from a midwife when I carefully wiped the blood from my placenta, got out my little art kit with coloured ink and handmade japanese paper, and proceeded to ignore the newborn baby while dh and I discussed how best to get the finer vein details...
Very glad I started this thread!!

Miranda2,

I'm guessing that there will be mumsnetters everywhere feeling very releived just now.. I've always said, a persons got to do what a persons got to do... but... I know i'll sleep easier tonight! But then i can't even make myself eat liver or kidney or that sort of thing.. yucky yucky.. Good luck!
