Hi Everyone, I'm first time pregnant with twins and my closest hospital is Milton Keynes.

Can anyone provide their experience of MK labour ward and NICU care if babies are premature? Is c-section the sensible delivery method for twins or vaginal birth if one baby is head down? If so, can you share your c-section / vaginal birth experience there in MK and how good is the post natal care there?

I get a mixed reviews for MK Hospital and not sure if I am going in the right direction. Please advise.

Thanks

I'm down the road from you and originally was going to self refer to MK due to friends reccomendations. I chose not to in the end just because of the distance but from all accounts I have heard, they are good!

I have zero experience with twin / prem babies, so above is more general.

So I had my twins last August at MK Hospital and I honestly couldn't say better things about my experience. From the initial self referral, all the way through my pregnancy and then the birth and postnatal care was all outstanding.

The consultant who looked after me during pregnancy was very helpful and great at including me in the choice of how I gave birth as well.

I had my twins via elective c section and the whole process was smooth and I honestly couldn't thank the theatre staff enough for how easy and worry free they made my surgery. They took really good care of me, and were great with my husband too. I was lucky in that I had my babies at 37 weeks and they were healthy weights so I didn't need the NICU but I'm sure they would have been amazing too.

The postnatal ward team were amazing and really helped me out, nothing was too much trouble for them, especially when during my first night I was exhausted and desperate for some sleep (I was on iv antibiotics as well) and the lady in charge very kindly took the twins out one at a time to feed them for me.

Compared to my first birth at a different local hospital (which was awful), my experience at MK was amazing. Hope this helps put your mind at ease a bit. If you have any other questions, just let me know ☺️

a lot of my nct group were mk hospital (births second half of last year) and got mixed reviews. Luton and dunstable has an excellent nicu if this is within travelling distance for you.

@Tabee88 Thank you for your message and sharing the experience. Do you have consultant led care during your pregnancy ? will it be the same person doing the E- C section as well ?
