SPD so much worse after delivery

Hey everyone, I’m after some reassurance… I had SPD in pregnancy, bad but not terrible. Still able to walk about without too much issue etc. However, I delivered my baby yesterday… and now I can’t walk. The pain is beyond excruciating. I can just about get into a standing position but lifting feet off the floor is completely out of the question. I had to have a wheelchair to get to the car to come home.

I was stitched up using stirrups, which I think was prob at least partly to blame. Other factors were that baby was 9lbs 8oz… and I gave birth lying on my back.

Anyone fancy telling me it’s all going to be okay?? It’s only been 24 hours but I’m having a bit of a panic.

Hi this was me after giving birth, it's awful when you have a newborn too . Have the hospital referred you for physio? You need hands on manual therapy to sort it out, this charity can advise: www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk

I got better but it took a long time because I wasn't given proper treatment at the start.

Definitely seek help, sounds like you've had two really aggravating factors and that shouldn't be ignored. Without those things SPD usually starts to improve immediately after birth as the weight comes off the pelvis. Mine was instant, what you're experiencing isn't right. You might need manual manipulation. The pain is nerve pain, don't try and push through it like you might a muscle pain.

@HotPenguin @SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox thanks so much, and I’m so sorry this has happened to you as well. The hospital staff were great but equally a lot of hand waving about only having given birth recently, you can expect some pain etc. Hard to swallow when my husband is currently having to carry me to the loo…! I’ll look into getting help ASAP…. Eek.

Could you see an Ostepath? It really helped me with SPD. Much more than physio

@Springisclose that sounds great, my issue is right now I can’t even imagine someone trying to help when I couldn’t even put my shoes on 😫

Hi. I had awful spd in pregnancy and struggled to walk but saw a chiropractor who kept me aligned up to the birth so i could manage. After the birth I went to be realined again. It worked and I haven't needed anything since. She was trained in a gentle approach suitable for pregnancy and knew how to treat me post birth. I hope you manage to find something for you because it is such a difficult thing to cope with and I totally empathise.
