Transverse at 36+4

So, I have an appointment in a couple of days and I’m pretty sure baby is still transverse. I’m not going to go for ECV procedure so what do you think the next steps will be? I had an induction date booked for 38+2 anyway, will they change this to a c section date? Or would I need a c section earlier?
I have read about people being kept in hospital until their c section, really don’t want that with 2 little people at home.
Just wondered if anyone had any experience of transverse lie babies!

DD was transverse. We did try ECV, which was initially successful, but she turned back that evening - I definitely understand why you don't want to try it

I was admitted at 37+4 for 10 (very dull) days in case I went into labour. I showed no signs of it, and had an ELCS at 39+1. DD was healthy, and I recovered well.

DD was my first, so no other children at home (very unusual for a transverse baby).

The risk is if your waters go, you may have a cord prolapse, where the umbilical cord falls into the vagina, as there's nothing to stop it - usually the baby's head is in the way. If you then contract, all blood flow through the cord is stopped, which is catastrophic for the baby. I can't comment on the risks of your waters going, but that was why I was admitted.

C sections are normally done after 39 weeks if possible to prevent breathing difficulties in for the baby. Giving birth vaginally forces fluid out of the baby's lungs and stimulates breathing (at any gestation from 37 weeks, possibly earlier). You may well find you're given a later c-section date.

thanks for sharing, both my other two children arrived early with speedy labours so I am worried about it coming early.

I wonder why they keep you in and don’t give you a c section at 37/38 weeks. Seems like a waste of a hospital bed!

Same as @notea I’m afraid. I was high risk anyway so they didn’t even bother to try turning her. I treated it as a rest as DD #1 was 13 months old and exhausting! Get DH to bring in nice food tho!

I was given a c-section date for as close as possible to 39 weeks - baby had other ideas and my waters broke 3 days before this so had to get to hospital straight away. She was breech rather than transverse though so think the risk of cord prolapse is less.

notea I really hope not! Both my other children were here by 39 weeks so it’s likely I will have gone into labour naturally by then!

I gave birth end of January to my
second little boy at 38 weeks.
He was transverse, I went in for a scan and they wouldn’t allow me home. I had to stay in hosptial until they could book me in for a C section, I already had one booked for 39 weeks but I asked them to bring it forward a week as I had toddler at home and didn’t want to be away to long.
They did say I could go home if baby turned but it never happend. X

How did it go? I'm currently 32+6 weeks pregnant and my baby is transverse, and as far as I can tell from week 20 she's always been in that position. There's still some time and hopefully she'll turn, but these last couple of days I felt her unsuccessful attempts at turning, she's still transversal, so I'm fearing that for whatever reason she's just unable to turn. I'm a SAHM to 2 children, a 3 year old and a 1.5 year old, my husband works full time and the only relative we have nearby is my MIL who works as well. I'm dreading being told to stay in hospital awaiting a C-section, I don't know how would I manage my children.

She turned and I had a natural birth! Still plenty of time left yet 🤞🏻

That's so reassuring to hear, I'm glad she turned for you and you were able to have a natural birth :)
