Can you buy these cds in any shops rather than online do you know?

whomovedmychocolate · 08/02/2008 22:27

Well you can buy the Mongan Hypnobirthing book and CD on Amazon and I know Waterstones et al can order it - it only takes 3 days from Amazon though.

There is one called Trancebirthing you can pay for and download online. But I didn't like it from the preview so didn't.

Micegg you can go to an intensive weekend workshop or you can do the full course still at 32 weeks. It's not too late.

I didn't start my course until 32 weeks. You could still do it if you can get in.

Micegg, I would still do the course or buy the Mongan book and CD. I did the same about 18 months ago and was really sceptical though I am into alternative therapies, reiki etc. I did the course at about 30 weeks, read the book, listend to the CD every day, all the way through feeling very sceptical but I thought I had nothing to lose. Then, went into labour and I had the best ever water birth. Arrived at hospital 9pm, he was born 2:22am. I loved it, and I don't know many people who say that! Didn't feel pain really just uncomfortable. Had gas and air to please the midwives who were pushing it on me. Also my son (a year old today) is a happy calm baby which also is supposed to be a result of HB. I have nothing to do with the HB industry, am just a normal mother. I tell my friends about HB but no one seems to take me up on it, it is great, honest. I am hoping for baby no 2 and he/she if they make an appearance will be HB too.

Missytabitha is right, you will get much better results from going on a course, the rate of c sections rate is significantly lower and a much higher % of mums use no pain relief.

I did a course as well, and had an amazing birth despite all the odds stacked against me. 32 weeks is perfect time to start women have done it right up to 39 weeks! Try not to do the intensive if you can avoid it. Better than nothing - but can you imagine sitting in a room in your third trimester for two days in a row. If you are going to spend the money get some quality time, spread over a few weeks.

There are lots of options as well as the Mongan which is the most publicised. As an alternative there are hypnotherapists specially trained in hypnosis for birth. (Although a Mongan therapist will always say that Mongan is the best.) There are pros and cons to both.

If you can't get on a Mongan course find a hypnotherapist in your area that has had additional training in hypnosis for birth then go and have a chat to him/her as well. Find them through the national council for hypnotherapy or the general hypnotherapy register. I found one who was an ex-mongan practitioner (she didn't subscribe to the restrictions placed upon the delivery) and she was great.

Good luck,
