Going into hospital with a stinking cold - feels wrong somehow.

I have a horrible cold/flu thing, and feel like death warmed up. Aside from the fact that I can't imagine having the energy for labour, I hate the thought of spreading cold germs to other mothers and newborn babies in the maternity ward.

I know it must be par for the course at this time of year, but was wondering what the etiquette was in these situations.

how far along are you?

I've heard many people say that if they have a cold/flu then the baby waits until you are feeling better and have the energy for labour...

I may be talking absolute bollocks, so sorry if this is total crap...

If you're in labour, go to the hospital.. what else are you going to do? Not sure etiquette comes into it!

Just really look after yourself for the next few days, drink tons of water and get as much rest as is possible at this stage, and try and relax..

I reckon that once your in labour the fact that you have a cold will be the last thing on your mind... your body will just take over

Take some glucose sweets with you, found the brilliant!

I know it will probably all have blown over before labour kicks off, and there's not much I can do if it hasn't.

I'm just going into ultra-neurotic mode as the big event approaches.

Well bar stitching yourself up )ow! ) there really isn't anything you can do is there? Just rest and be extra nice to yourself

And baby could be a fortnigt away yet- there now, that feels even worse doesn't it?

Poor you.

I came down w. a chesty cold the day before my water's broke - was given broad spectrum antibiotics once it was clear baby was on its way.

I found that when labour was fully under way the cold symptoms kind of disappeared - or at least I didn't notice them. You do find extra reserves of strength too - don't ask me how / from where but you do.

And don't worry about going into hospital-they'll cope fine and I bet lots f visitors w. colds will be in the maternity ward every day.
