Epidural- how does it feel?

Hi guys!
for anyone who has had epidural how did it feel when they were putting needle? Also how many cm were you dilated when they did?

how was the recovery? How many hours after birthing were you able to mobilise?

i heard horror stories of epidural- in fact when I had my first baby, the lady opposite me couldn’t walk even after a few days, but eventually the sensation came a little and they gave her crutches to be discharged with.

This is one of my worst nightmares but I can’t go through that pain again!

How far up does the numbness go? Is it past your chest?

That’s the scary part! Don’t want to feel any pain at All

That's a very unrealistic expectation for going into labour and even with the most amazing epidural is unlikely to be possible. Would you prefer an elective section?

You don't feel pain but your legs feel heavy. I was moving about quite soon after mine and 2nd time I was dosed up to the max as they thought I'd need an emergency c section.

When I had the spinal after the pain of being 10cm, I didn’t really feel anything. Just pressure, tugging etc. Would it be a similar situation with epidural?

Epidurals and spinals are not the same thing. No one is going to guarantee you won’t have any pain at any point in labour - you will have to have had some contractions at least to know you are in labour before an epidural is sited. If you look at the info leaflets on the labourpains website you’ll see that about 1:8 times an epidural is not effective enough to be the sole means of analgesia in labour (there are sometimes things that can be done to improve those epidurals, but occasionally it just isn’t possible). The only way to know if it’s going to work is to have one and see what happens!

Of course!

i had contractions and only when I got to 10cm I felt the pain. And this was horrific pain. Spinal helped and didn’t feel anything after it kicked in. So was wondering if it is similar but I guess not
