is it normal to have gas and air for removal of sutures five days post op?

I didn't but then they don't have gas and air in Spain, so not very helpful. I had my stitches out on day 7, well half of them and then the rest out the day after. Would have liked some gas and air though

i've googled it but can't find anything on it. never known it used on any other type of suture removal.

The midwife generally takes them out when she comes to visit you at home post birth. Can't remember the exact time, but I think it's 3 or 4 days post section. It is painless. I had one long "thread" with a plastic nob thingy on each end. She just clips one end and then pulls it through.

Same as Eleusis and I didn't feel a thing.

Is your wound infected?

Its not me! Someone I know had this a while ago. Seemed a bit odd iyswim?

i had staples, removed at home by the MW about 6 days post op.. not painful in the least ! were your friends stitches removed in hospital?

I had the same as eleusis and had an infection in the wound. It hurt a bit because of that but not the actual removal bit

No more painful than having a plaster pulled off. You certainly wouldn't need gas and air.

Ive had 2 c sections, 1 I had staples and 1 I had stitches and no there was no gas or air. They were taken out at home. On the 2nd I had a very nasty womb infection so it was a little tender but nothing to worry about.

Definitely didn't need gas and air - I had the same as eleusis. In fact was the very least painful thing about my cs!

One long thread held with beads at both ends, MW said take a deep breath and blow out, I did and it didn't hurt a bit. 2nd time I had disolvable stitches so no removal needed.

I find it odd that someone would have gas and air to have this removed.

When I had mine they wouldnt give me the same twice, I think it can depend on how many c sections uve had as to what kind of stiches or staples they use or so they told me. Cos I did not want staples 2nd time but apparently had no choice.

so what happens if you have a 3rd section kel78?

I have had two sections, with both it was just one long stitch, with balls either end.
I was petrified both times I was going to fall apart and come undone like a big zip, but I didn't.
Didn't really feel it either time tbh.

Mikafan- not sure hoping that a diff doctor will give stitches as didnt really like staples. Im pregnant again now but really dont want c- sect have any of u had natural after having c -sect.

sorry but i think that barbaric comment is unhelpful nonsense

i've had two c-sections and staples each time, removal was at home, by midwife about 7 days afterward. was painless, and very tidy scar.

I do remember the consultant saying that I had staples the 2nd time because of what had happened in theatre. Not sure if that is cos I had a few problems and they had to use forceps etc in me but they did say that the staples was better for me than the stitches to hold my scar. I assumed it was because of my 2nd but may have been purley because of the complications they had. Was very ill 2nd time around with womb infection for about 8 weeks. Thats why Im not too keen on having c- sect this time.
