Well I bragged like a demented mother about my easy labour- haven't I got what I deserve now!!

I had one stitch to put my labia back together but since then the mw has told me that I have a nice deep laceration which they can do 'nothing' about, other than give me antibiotics which could taint the milk- so haven't took them.. instead I am covered in sydacream and wearing ice packs!! It is getting better because it did feel like I was weeing razor blades while holding a blow torch to my fanjo.. but now I can not poo! I took senakot last night and I had a pathetic poo this morning, I am usually a two a day kind of gal- if it carries on I will call mw but was wondering if there are any miracle rememdies out there- short of putting vaseline up there suggested by my mother- the shame of it.. sorry fopr the gross post xx

Get someone to look after your little one, ensure that you will not be disturbed then take a good book or magazine into the bathroom, sit on the toilet and don't think about having a poo. Sit for as long as you like and you may be surprised!

Worked for me anyway!!

Good luck

AAaaargh bloody hell poor you.

There was this thread about this quite recently - lots of advice on there.

Lulumama · 02/02/2008 20:21

oh dear, you poor thing

lots of prunes, dried apricots and figs, also lots of water

hold a pad to your perineum to support everything as you poo

are you sure antibiotics will 'taint' the milk??

have a bath then try for your poo, warm water might relax you

there are things like lactulose, not sure if it is prescription only

napa · 02/02/2008 21:04

try drinking a litre of fresh orange juice (with bits) and make sure you are drinking 2-3 litres of fluid a day anyway

TREBUCHET · 02/02/2008 21:08

According to my GP there are very few antibiotics that should affect the milk. May be worth checking. Good luck, poor thing. Plenty of water and a nice decaff coffee, and a fag and a fig roll x

TREBUCHET · 02/02/2008 21:09

Whoops I am so crap, I meant to score out fag, not really suggesting it!

whomovedmychocolate · 02/02/2008 21:28

LOL trebuchet.

Bluebell - others here have suggested:

-pooing in the bath

  • horsey lips/sounds while on the loo
  • oiling your derriere
  • soft fruits
  • water

Or try all of them and a baked bean sandwich and I'm sure by tomorrow morning you will have solved it.

BTW ouch re your labia laceration, sounds frightful!

The midwife gave me a laxative pessary up 'there' after I could not poo after c- section. Within half an hour there was no stopping it I can tell you. Did not hurt and was great relief. You could ask your mw?

TREBUCHET · 03/02/2008 21:42

Any luck? x

Had similar problem myself. Solved it by drinking gallons of coffee(caffine irrates bowl), ate the whole fruit bowl and 2kg of liquiorce allsorts. Had no probs after that!!!

Lactulose is not prescription only-it's actually cheaper bought over the counter (as my friendly boots pharmacist advised me). It softens the stools, and take it several times a day (instructions obviously on the bottle!) I've used it, and also it's safe to give to your LO (at an older age) if constipation/hard stools occur (as happened with Niamh-2yr&4mth, last August). I still have the odd problem with my bowels now-2 yrs later-been to doc, and they just prescibe sopositeries! (Internal piles-apparently-sorry if TMI!!)

Bluebell - I couldn't poo for days after dd1 so I know how you feel. Dr prescribed me Movicol and said that after 1 sachet I'd be fine - 7 sachets later, I finally went !! I'm preg at the moment and was suffering terrible constipation at about 15 weeks. My Mum's nutritionist suggested a powder called Lepicol, which you can buy from Holland and Barrett for about 9 or so quid a tin. It is along the lines of Fybogel but more effective. Only thing is, it is vile - like swallowing sawdust mixed with water but it works and you get used to glugging it down after a few days or so. I'd recommend it to anyone with constipation. Only thing it made have funny shaped poo's (lol). Instead of several 'pellets' - all the 'pellets' came out joined together. I stared in wonder the first time it happened ! Sorry to make you gag. Lactulose did absolutely jack for me.
