Hi ladies,

Have got birth "interview" tomorrow, and was thinking of taking few bits with me to leave with parents. Do you think this good idea?

ie, Doula UK leaflet, (they found me off there)
my contract

Was thinking of drawing up a sheet with questions such as

due date
hosp/home of choice

what do you ladies think?

The joib is literally walking distance from my house, and will be my 4th birth!! Woohoo, so would really like to get it.

Thank you oh wise ones. lol

when are you due liaghen?

liahgen · 03/02/2008 20:33

not preggers yet. Still bf 9mth old and i never get periods back until lo's are fully off the breast, no matter how much solid food they eat.
Was kinda hoping that it would happen sometime in the not too distant future but we'll see when mother nature sees fit.

Despite being a doula, and i'm fab for other people, I am really really scared of labour for myself, have had some really bad experiences, and flashbacks etc. Would just like a positive birth experience for myself, not too much to ask is it.? lol

How do I look at your website in your profile? Thick moment.

Really of you all with all your birth experiences....

It's so slow up here in my area of Scotland

But have given some post natal support to parents of 6wk old twins this week, Scrumdiddliumptious!!!

Hope I might get some results after Baby Fair a couple of weeks ago. Raising my profile!

Start training tomorrow for Breastfeeding Peer Support with local hospital, [excited emoticon]

rachaelsara · 03/02/2008 20:53

Thanks Lulu and Mars, took my eye off the mn ball for 24hrs!!!

Lulu, how do you advertise?

I've never not got a job I've been interviewed for, and the Dad's are fine after they've met me and I've explained my role, and I always say that he loves client, I don't and that is how important he is in the event!

I'd LOVE to be busier. My last client was miles away, so I've not persued the mw's there, but my current lady is very local, so I think I can network a bit..... Hints and tips would be very welcome!

The only part of the job I don't enjoy is being sober!

rachaelsara · 03/02/2008 20:54

I use a contract too.

liahgen · 03/02/2008 21:01

I've just emailed ABM about training to be a breastfeeding counsellor aswell, like I haven't got enough to do, lol

the address is in my profile, but here it is !

www.motheringinstincts.com

the only advertising i have done is on doula uk

was about to step up my advertising, but all my childcare has just gone to sh*t, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

so am almost back at square one i do lots of birth prep, but never charge , yes, i am truly an idiot ! but i love it so.

got a baby day coming up at local hospital and will be starting birth support group in march so might be able to pick up work from there.

it is so frustrating, i wish i could afford a nanny or some such, then i could work more.if i worked more, i could afford a nanny... ( how much are nannies!?) vicious blardy circle

and that is before i look at applying for midwifery

liagfhen.. have you been debriefed re you births, especially if you have had flashbacks?

liahgen · 03/02/2008 21:08

no i haven't. Obviously have talked to mates but always play it down tbh. Seems a bit stupid, We are ok, baby is ok, As a professional, just feel a bit stupid. Last 2 were bloody awful, but last but one was the worst.
Still want to do it again, but terrified iof it going wrong again.
Would really like a hb but suffer from Oc in pg, so not much chance of that.

Lulumama · 03/02/2008 21:13

oh dear it is not stupid , have you read the threads on birth trauma? it is so important to deal with it .. so important, as you carry the baggage around with you and it is always there ... think about contacting the BTA or birth crisis.. or your mentor?

rachaelsara · 03/02/2008 21:23

Don't play it down when you talk about it, if you're among friends they will want to know.

MarsLady · 03/02/2008 23:36

Very important to debrief yourself properly. For your own sake and for your work.

As lulu mentioned there are birth trauma threads. Also... when you say OC do you mean Obstetric Choleostasis? There's no reason why the next pregnancy will cause this to happen.

Get yourself de-briefed angel. It'll do you no end of good.

Rachel... will tell my Devon friends about you and see if we can't russle up some more work for you.

rachaelsara · 04/02/2008 20:50

Thanks Mars. Sorry it's taking me so long to reply..... It's like Devon is on a different time zone!

I've spent the day with my 36 week client nagging her to pack her bag! Though I haven't packed mine yet.....
