Anyone else not feel pushing contractions on pitocin?

Hi! I'm pregnant again and thinking about my first birth. It was a pretty good birth overall, and despite being induced, but one thing that's irked me is that for a period of time I couldn't feel the pushing contractions.

I felt the down contractions, and then the beginning of pushing (which was wild and kind of amazing!) but after an hour pushing they asked me to get on my back (policy! 🙄) and then I no longer felt the actual contractions. They were still happening, as they could see them on the monitor, but I've no idea why I couldn't feel them.

Did anyone else experience this?

I have never ever felt the urge to push
two children
both vaginal
no pain relief

so weird
i had to force pushing when told by midwife

Although it's good to reflect on past experience (this really helped me mentally prepare for my 2nd) my advice is don't worry too much about one thing. Chances are your second will be easier and quicker, and hopefully you won't need to be induced.

I felt the urge with DD1...I'd had pethidine and fell asleep..the urge to push woke me up. With DS I had just gas and air and never did feel the urge..felt so much more painful because of it. If I don't feel the urge this time I will wait until I do x

I had to be told when to push. I was in enormous pain despite all the drugs going (epidural had no effect). Weird, I could feel pain but no movement. It was a nightmare. I was also made to lie down. F-ing stupid.

I had no urge to push with my first. Had the drip to speed things up and Pethidine. I had to be told when to push and he was eventually delivered by ventouse. Was on my back and it wasn't great.

My second was completely different. Stood against the side of the bed, only gas and air and oh my word, when I felt the urge to push it was incredible!!! Both births completely different.

I had a natural birth and a medicated one and I didn’t feel the urge to push with either . It felt odd pushing when there was “nothing” to push .

Interesting! I wonder what could be causing it. Not a problem at all but does make me winder why I stopped feeling the contractions. Perhaps if I'd been able to change positions it might have helped. All ended fine in the end anyway!

Very odd but interesting. Seems it can just be different for every woman. Was hoping for a reason I guess 😅 But sometimes there's no rhyme or reason in birth I suppose.

No rhyme or reason is true!

I had no urge to push whatsoever with my first. In fact my contractions pretty much died off altogether even though I was 10cm and ready to go. Drip had to be turned back on to stimulate them again. It was weird. Luckily, pushing went really well. Baby was out within 20 minutes!

With my second, I did, or at least I think I did (no experience to compare it to after all), have the urge to push. Unluckily, I was only 5cm at the time. Apparently it can happen when baby is back to back. The back of their head can press against a nerve that triggers the sensation. A non back to back baby wouldn't hit it until they were descending into the birth canal.
