Scared to feel the kicks

I've always been one to find pregnancy scary, having a human grow inside of you, the unknown of it all and all the changes... not to mention the day where you're in the most pain your body has ever had to endure. It's scary! I'm almost 8 weeks pregnant with my first child and I am over the moon and beyond happy! Yet there's this huge amount of fear when it comes to the stage when the baby starts to kick... will I freak out? Will it hurt unbearably? Will I doubt myself being capable of this? And that's not even at the birth stage is it ... do you see my worry 🙁

I felt exactly the same before my pregnancy, was worried it would feel like an alien. I ended up loving the kicks, the first few turned my stomach because it was a new feeling but it starts off so small and gets stronger so you have plenty of time to get used to them. ended up being the only part of pregnancy I actually enjoyed!

I have twins and my most favourite memories of my pregnancy was so watching their little hands and feet pushing out ripples in my belly

Chat to you midwife about your concerns there some brilliant support they can offer and they'll be able tomanswer any concerns you're having.

As pps have said the kicks don't hurt.

And personally neither of my labours hurt as such. They were uncomfortable but it's a productive pain. Brings you closer to meeting baby and all that. You have to keep in mind it will end when baby is delivered 🙂

It's very gradual. At first it's teeny flutters. They are amazing! Then they gradually turn into bigger movements. Never painful. Right near the end (and it's all old news to you by this stage) you sometimes get really big pushes from a leg or elbow. They don't hurt but they can be 'woaaaaahhh' in a funny way. Dies childbirth hurt? Yep. Worst pain in the world? I think nerve pain in my tooth when I needed a root canal was way worse. And the body is wanting the childbirth thing. It isn't wanting root pain. So lots of hormones kick in.

I had this same sorry when I was first pregnant, everyone I spoke to about it looked at me like I had 2 heads! Truth is it was absolutely fine, I grew to love feeling the kicks, felt more like flutters to me- putting my hand on my stomach and feeling a little kick where my hand was made me so emotional; it was beautiful. Congratulations OP.

Currently 32+5 and I LOVE baby kicks! Mine aren't quite as frequent due to an anterior placenta being in the way, but when I do feel my baby kicking it's the most wonderful feeling. Especially when you put your hand against bump and feel them against you. My DH loves it too when he gets to feel her, it's the most amazing bonding experience.

I have had a couple take me by surprise I will admit - like when baby has been quiet and then suddenly they give a super strong kick which can feel weird - but it's never hurt. It usually makes me laugh, but I am quite awkward like that! 😄
