I have heard that your could request tubal ligation during ELCS
I am due to have ELCS for my second baby and we are quite sure two is it for us.
Has someone done this? Can you talk me through it please?

Many thanks!

I haven't had it done but I am having it done with my C-Section next month. They were quite happy to agree and it only adds an extra 5 minutes to the operation!

I had this done after my second section in august.
Discussed with consultant beforehand and it was agreed etc.
During the surgery they just deliver the baby etc as usual and then at the end they do the sterilisation, took about an extra 10-20 mins I think.

That's it. I had absolutely no issues etc - you wouldn't know it had been done. It makes no real difference to the surgery in general. I had some lovely skin to skin time whilst they did this and stitched up etc.

My section was originally planned (medical necessity) but ended up being emergency as I went into labour spontaneously and (for medical reasons) that was unsafe. Still went ahead as planned.

It's absolutely the time to do it to avoid further surgery but only if you are absolutely sure you don't want more children as although it's technically reversible it's costly and doesn't work most of the time.

Also not had it done, but know the basic procedure.

Bring it up at your next consultant appointment. It's so you show that you've thought it through, rather than it being a request on the day. On the day you sign the consent with it listed. As a PP says, it only adds a few minutes total to the operation. About a cm of each tube is removed, and the remaining ends stitched and cauterised.

I had it done after my third. No difference in recovery or feeling from a previous c section.
We knew we were done and it made sense for us.
Very happy that I did.

Thanks so much everyone! Can I ask roughly how old you are? I am 36 and quite sure 2 is it for me but midwife commented I am young for something so final etc and now I am doubting

My niece had this done at age 30 after a c section with her twins, she has four children and two step children and was sure she was done - it's a personal choice and if you know you're done at two there's no need to doubt yourself at all. Wishing you a safe delivery and healthy baby!

I was 32 and it was my 3rd baby. No regrets.

Ahnobother · 12/10/2022 07:05

I was 39 when I had mine and it was after my third. I knew I wanted 3 but then I felt we'd be done after that. I had my first at 35.

I'm 28, second baby. I've had an awful pregnancy and have absolutely no desire to do it again.

Thank you. I'm also very sure this is it so I don't why the last minute jitters! This is so helpful I have lots of thinking to do
