Contractions 4 mins apart - advice needed!

My df called around 6.30 tonight - she is 40+5 and had a membrane sweep yesterday. She was on her way to hospital as was having contractions every 6 mins then every 4 mins for the last 45mins (before I spoke to her). Having laboured in hospital with my 2 dc and never actually timed any contractions I dont have a clue wether this is a good sign and she may be quite far on.

Any ideas on how far she might be?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

First or subsequent labour? If second I'd guess quite far on. Mine were every three minutes or so about an hour before I had DS2.

Its her first baby. She just text there and said shes been sent home, she is having 3 in 10 minutes but she is only 2cm dilated - which was yesterday at her sweep.

Sorry should be - she is still 2cm dilated - which she was yesterday at her sweep.

How long are her contractions lasting?
I went from every 7 minutes to giving birth in 11 hours, but I did move to every 4 minutes lasting a minute within about 3 hours of them starting. I was 3-4cm dilated at 9am, and gave birth at 4:41pm.

I had contractions 4/5 mins apart for more than 36 hrs before I went to hospital (where I was 7 cm) and then another 4/5 hrs before the baby was born. I think that was on the long side though so she may (hopefully) be quicker. It's best if she rests at the moment. I know sleep is impossible but I was sooooo tired when it got to the pushing stage after nearly 2 days of contractions and I think that was probably why I ended up with a ventouse (though I was - frankly - thrilled to be having one and getting the baby out at last by that stage).

Best of luck to her

thanks everyone for your experiences so far. Text and asked but shes not replied - assume shes trying to get some rest which she said she was going to do when i last spoke to her.

Ooh how exciting. I'd be dead pissed off to be sent home though - she's probably sulking and eating chocolate

yelnats · 24/01/2008 23:02

Well they said she could stay if she wanted but I think she thought better at home cos better chance of her getting some rest.

She will be having her baby in Mears' ward!! Wonder if she's working tonight - or mayb not - she'll maybe at home looking after her poor dad.

Well that's true enough - labour wards are hardly restful. Well hopefully she will sleep and progress and wake up ready to push.

yelnats · 24/01/2008 23:05

fingers crossed for her - I am soooo excited - she has been my best friend since we were teeny tiny 3 year olds!!
