Post c-section first poo

Last time I had a c section I didn't manage a poo for two weeks and when I did it was unsurprisingly terrible and, I'm afraid, required me to glove up and assist it out with a finger. I am going in later this week for another CS and would like to try to avoid the same thing! I took lactulose last time and made sure I kept mobile which clearly didn't really help. Does anyone have any other tips? Help!

Also lactulose, and less morphine than before (5ml three times a day instead of 10)

Wonderful news! I am truly pleased for you! I hope the rest of your recovery goes well. Be gentle with yourself!

I appreciate that this is too late for you, OP, but a glycerine suppository makes all of the advice in this thread unnecessary.

Wait until you feel like you need a poo, then stick the suppository up your bum, wait for 15 minutes if you can, sit on the loo and everything will just slip out.

Congrats on your poo - and your baby - anyway OP!

@babyjellyfish that would be my last resort having had to use them earlier in my pregnancy... Was not a pleasant experience!

I thought they were brilliant, @Weathergirl1. I used one before labour too, because I was self-conscious about the possibility of pooing during the pushing stage. Not that I ever got to the pushing stage, as it happened.

Hi!
Had my c-section yesterday morning.
Really hoped to do a poo beforehand, but it just wasn't happening.
24 hours later, and I now feel really backed up, but when I tried to poo today I got a very sharp pain in abdomen and stopped.
How long did you take to have a bowel movement after your c-section?
I'm uncomfortable and gassy, but don't want to force it if its too early.
Cheers!

@pennyfig I think I was around day 3. I didn’t feel pain in my abdomen but I did have a similar experience to the OP on this post and spent around 3 hours in the bathroom thinking I’d never be able to leave 🫣 I’d definitely recommend getting some lactulose - I immediately sent DH out for some and had a much easier time the following day despite still taking the dihydrocodeine. I thought I was prepared by drinking loads of water, eating dried fruit and being mobile but that was nowhere near enough in my case.
