Has anyone had a doula? What happens with c section?

Im considering hiring a doula for my second birth after a horrendous first birth that ended in c section.
Though I want a vbac, there's a decent chance I'll end up with a planned section (I'm going to refuse induction so if I'm overdue etc) Can doulas help with planned sections? Has anyone had experience? Thanks!

You're limited to only one birth partner in the operating theatre. Nothing to stop them being there via video chat though. So you'd have to make a choice of who to bring in with you. Not had any experience with a doula sorry. I imagine they'll be able to help with relaxation techniques and visualisations. Same as they would in preparation for labour.

I had a doula.

She was extremely good at coaching my breathing so things hurt less. If I stopped following her timing, it hurt a lot more!

If you need a section I think you’re only allowed one person with you, but don’t underestimate the value of having an extra person there to park the car / fetch snacks / make phone calls for you while your partner focuses on you.

Thanks all, that's really helpful. I think I'll go for it, even if I end up with a planned section, just to have a bit of continuity of care

@Thetractorjustmoved I had a doula for my first, which ended up in a planned section (PPROM & Breech). She wasn't allowed in theatre but was allowed in recovery and helped with breastfeeding support. I've got her on board again for #2 (ELCS in just under 3 weeks) and again she'll be allowed in recovery.

Was really helpful to have another person around to support. Even with ELCS sometimes things came up where I felt I needed an extra advocate.
