What is wrong with me why can’t I just go into labour???

I’m 39 weeks and for 3 weeks I keep getting regular contractions then start and stop and start and fade off. Iv been loosing some clear mucus on trips to the bathroom but nothing bloody. I feel so deflated and disappointed in my body that it won’t go into labour. My induction is getting closer by the minuet and I just wish so bad I’d go into labour and I don’t understand why I’m not! Baby is engaged they say and I feel pain in my cervix when she moves around. Is there something wrong with my body where I can’t go into labour?

You're only 39 weeks! You could have another 3 weeks to wait. Baby will come when it's ready.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with you. You may have been experiencing braxton hicks contractions. The mucus plug you're losing can start coming away 4 weeks before so sadly isn't as simple as it going and then labour beginning.
This stage is really frustrating I know. As your midwife for a sweep, and be prepared to have more than one. Try and relax and take some time out as stress and anxiety can slow down a labour so have a bath, light a candle, read a good book and just enjoy the quiet before baby arrives!
Good luck, it will happen when baby is ready.

Yes try a sweep before induction, I’ll be having this 2nd time around too. I also don’t want to go to induction. I’ve also read here about sex after sweep helps get into labour. See how fast they can see you, I think any midwife can do it, good luck.

Baby can also go in and out of being engaged at any given moment too 😬. There really is nothing wrong with you but I understand the frustration of, "Could it be today?!" and it isn't that you feel when you're coming to the end of pregnancy.

It's also important to remember that some women have longer/ shorter gestational periods than others. I have friends who've given birth at 38 weeks and friends who've had children at 42 weeks. Plus, due dates aren't an exact science (which I'm sure you know - I'm not trying to be patronising!).

Hang in there! Is there a medical reason for why you need to have an induction?

BlueBunny23 · 20/09/2022 21:46

@Chanel05 my heart condition has gotten worse and at the point now walking around makes me breathless. Stairs are a no no, almost faint half way up. Baby’s growth has slowed and she’s not thriving in there anymore sadly

Have you discussed having a c-section, you need to protect your health as well as deliver your baby

Nothing is wrong with you, you could go right to 42 weeks yet. It's frustrating and horrible at the end but when the baby is ready he or she will come.
Remember you can decline an induction and opt for monitoring even after you hit 42 weeks. You don't have to do anything you are not comfortable with.

Stay calm you will be ok x
