Fresh Bleeding - TMI alert!

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I need to go to the doctor -

I had a c-s three weeks ago. I had normal lochia for the first week which turned brown in the second week (which I know is normal too).

In the last week or so I've had a urinary tract infection (producing blood - being treated), the vomiting bug and have started BF every two hours.

My blood has been fresh and quite heavy for all this period. When I was getting help for the vomiting and the water infection the doctor seemed to be very concerned at first about the fresh vaginal bleeding but ultimately didn't comment on it. I'm beginning to wonder if he forgot because of the other two things.

The bleeding is bright red, consistent and often mucousy.

Would you go to the GP?

the breastfeeding might have stimulated more blood loss.

are you passing any clots or is there any nasty smell?

you could give the MW a call back if you are still under her care

if you are worried then do seek medical advice

thanks lulmama - i've been discharged from mw. there is a smell that i associate with my hospital stay - difficult to describe but not bad exactly.

probably will go to gp. just difficult with the other illnesses. hopefully tomorrow will be better.

if not change in 24 hours and you are still worried, or you start to feel more unwell, passing big clots, pain in your abdomen, get seen asap !

Hi Susiemj

The exact same thing happened after my 3rd c-sect. Everything progressing normally until 2 weeks after the op - then I had about 3 or 4 really heavy, bright red, bleeds in the course of a week. So scary that I took myself off to A and E convinced my uterus had fallen apart!

After a few scans to make sure nothing had been retained (apparantly very rare for a c-sect) I was told that the scar was just taking a long time to heal and I needed to really rest up. Which I did and everything eventually righted itself.
There was a clot on the scar that kept breaking away causing fresh bleeding.

I would definitely get yourself checked out and scanned to check for any retention and see if they can check the scar internally to see if it healing - trans vaginal scan if I remember correctly - yeuch.

Good luck and take care.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll try to go to the GP today.

Susie - I had to be readmitted to hospital six weeks after I had my section, I got an infection following a UTI and started to bleed again. I needed IV antibiotics to clear it. It is worth getting it checked out again, particularly if you are finding that you get a lot of blood.
