How awful is that? I feel so for her.
I have never heard of it until now. Anyone else had this?

Thank you for advice about the birthtraumaassociation. At the moment I feel I'm coming to terms with it, but if I do change my mind about no 2, then it sounds like they might be able to help.

When I read your post I thought you meant that she had been cut twice at 7 oclock and 5 oclock, if you looked at a clock face. That is brutal and quite unnecessary. And that is a double episiotomy.

If you mean that she had an episiotomy and then they extended it a bit with another cut as it was still going to tear into the anus, then that is fairly normal. Sometimes the Dr or midwife does a small epis to see if they will manage to get baby out and its not enough so has to be extended and that is standard practice. This is an extended episiotomy.

Both (and I imagine, even a normal epis) would be bloody painful.... for your SIL.

As for 'female genital mutilation' or FGM as female circumcision is more accurately called, I think this would surpass the pain of an epis by a loooong way. No local anaesthetic in the countries where they do this barbaric act.

No, it was definitely a double, more like 6 oclock, and and 9 oclock.

Thanks for info on birth trauma, but she seems OK at the moment, but I think it may hit her later on.

Sorry you had such a bad time hotxbunny, hope they can help you too.
