Does having an anterior or posterior placenta make any difference to the birth?

i.e. to the speed or 'comfort' of it? Does anyone have any experiences of having a differently positioned placenta in each of their pregnancies?

hiya - mine was posterior the first time - which i believe is the usual - but anterior this time. at 20 wk scan the lady said i mightn't feel baby move as much as placenta is at the front, but i feel it move plenty. i asked if it made a difference to the birth and was told no. i think it is only if the placenta drops down and blocks the birth canal there is a problem. this is called placenta previa I believe. so it sounds like we should be ok ; ) ps; just read that back and just wanted to say, from what i understand, having an anterior doesn't make it more likely that it'll drop down or anything - if this makes sense !

I had my 20 wk scan recently and dug out my old notes for comparison, so here you go...

DD1 - high anterior - 7hrs, straight-forward, no drugs required.

DS1 - high posterior, 3 hrs, straight-forward, no drugs required.

DD2 - high posterior, 1 hr, straight-forward, no drugs required.

DS2 - anterior - DUE IN MAY (hoping it follows the easy pattern).

two posterior placentas

one c.s ( failure to progress )

one VBAC , long latent phase, 15 hours, short labour, 3 1/4 hours from 3 cm to holding baby, who was OP.

anterior both times.

DS1 oblique with high anterior. I had opted for a CS anyway - just as well as DS1 was stuck and needed a ventouse.

DS2 - low anterior. He was transverse/breech but I was having a CS.

Low anterior and posterior for second pg -- poor lo couldn't engage and I ended up with a cs (there were other problems which suggested we shouldn't wait any longer to see if he could squeeze out).
