Childbirth

3rd c section

I know all surgery comes with risks but wondered if anyone has any stories about a third c section? It's been 26 months since my last. I've had two emergency c sections due to pre eclampsia. Tried for vbac with second but it wouldn't progress. I have bad anxiety as it is but with my second it took them a while to 'put me back together ' and I was just off losing enough blood to need a transfusion. A very stern doctor came to my room after and advised me to have my tubes tied and have no more babies. I spoke to someone who's a midwife today as was told he should not have said that. The pre-eclampsia wasn't as bad with my second either. Does anyone have any similar stories? I need to think about the two girls I have already so trying to judge how risky it would be

I had one vaginal birth followed by two elective sections. Consultant advised me to "think very carefully" if I was to have another baby due to risk of scar abruption. I won't. I've got 3. I'm 34 and done!

I had my first emergency c section at 21 , then my second elective ( consultant decision ) at 25
I had my third at 37! The scar tissue had obviously healed well and knotted so the surgeon told me they had to cut away at a lot of scar tissue ( healed and knotted very thick over the 12 previous years )
I was a lot sorer after but I think only
For that reason x

I’ve only had one and it was an elective but I know I’d probably like three children and also very anxious about anything like that 🙈you can get certain checks done privately to see if they’d advise it or not I’m sure

You can make an appointment with the gp to go over your notes from pregnancy I'm fairly sure. They can refer you if necessary.

My sister has recently had her 3rd c section and was very anxious as she lost a lot of blood with her second to the point she had therapy during pregnancy through the NHS. The midwives were lovely and everything went swimmingly. Good luck!

I’ve had three. 2 years apart for each. All fine on the last. Was in surgery for a bit longer because she had extra scarring to clear up, but nothing major.

I’ve had 6. My third was fine but it does seem to be that drs don’t advise more than 3

The more sections the higher the risk of placenta accreta or, worst case, percreta. I personally know of 3 women who had this - one accreta on second c sec, two percreta on 5th and 3rd c secs respectively.

Do you know why the doctor advised against further pregnancies specifically? I wonder if a debrief appointment at the hospital might make your personal risks clearer?

A friend has had all her four DC by c section. The last one was a surprise 4 years after she thought she was done. She had her tube tied after. No complications with any. HTH

I’ve had 3 and have been fine with all, honestly didn’t notice any difference between recovery time of all. After my 2nd the consultant said to me you know if you go again it will have to be a third section (1st two weren’t by choice) he never said I shouldn’t have a third.

I’ve had 3. Second was 14 months after first and third was 2 years later. No problems. Was advised to have tubes tied as it’s not advisable to have more than 3 C sections and I did…

Hi, I had 3 CS. First one was emergency, second one baby was big so no choice. I did lose a lot of blood after the birth of my second 1.5 litres and needed transfusion. My third was CS as 2 previous ones were so you have no choice. I do not want anymore children but I have not tied my tubes.

I had first by EMCS then 2nd and 3rd as electives. All fine. I will say that each one was a bit slower recovery than the one before, but am sure that was largely down to my age at each birth (25, 28 and 43). Also had a 15 year gap between 2 and 3!

I did develop adenomyosis after the third, which can be caused by uterine scarring. Led to pretty horrendous periods and serious anaemia. Now resolved (hopefully) with a Mirena coil.

A friend of mine has had 5 c-sections. She was told very clearly after the last not to get pregnant again.
