40+ weeks induction VS c-section

Hello all,

I was wondering about people's feelings about induction vs c-section after the due date. I will wait as long as possible for a vaginal birth, however if an induction is suggested, I am feeling nervous. This is my first birth and I am worried that the induction will result in intervention or an emergency c section, which makes me concerned about recovery.

I am concerned about ELEC c-section recovery too - but would it be easier if I wasn't exhausted from trying a vaginal birth too?

Any experiences/thoughts would be really helpful.

In theory you should be able to choose but in practice if you are going NHS they'll steer you towards induction.

I had an induction but only needed a pessary then had an easy natural birth the same day I went in, so they aren't all 3-day marathons ending in c-sections.

In have had 2 children. First child was overdue and they induced with the pessary. This worked really quickly and DD was born within 8 hours. No interventions needed.

DS was also overdue. As my cervix was soft and as the pessary worked very quickly last time through discussion with the doctors I had my waters broken so no need for any hormone induction. All went well until the final stages when DS got stuck. Unfortunately they couldn't maneuver him out so I had an emergency c section. I would 100% opt for induction over a c section any day mainly due to healing time after. Induction does not mean you will end up with a c section.
