Extremely worried about brother's new baby. This doesn't sound good does it?

Born yesterday.
Shoulders got stuck and had to be pulled out - stopped breathing for about a minute.
Brother said it was horrid - baby was grey.
Today baby has started "shaking"
My mum is hysterical with worry.
It doesn't look good to me but I have no medical knowledge or experience.
I feel sick.
Any ideas?

DD2 was born not breathing - she was born via ventouse and things got a bit scary to say the least. She was born grey with an agpar score of 2.
She is now a healthy and happy (and cheeky) 3 year old.

That little boy is going to be SO cherished when he does come home

We still refer to ds1 as our little miracle baby, because we were so worried about him. And he's a grotty opinionated 5yo with scabby knees now

neolara · 17/01/2008 16:21

My DS wailed when he came out then did not breathe for another two minutes. He was bluey -greay. At 12 months he is absolutely, completely fine. No problems whatsoever. Really hope this is the case for your brother's DS.

Dd1 was born rather grey and needed a bit of suctioning to start proper breathing. Ever so worrying at the time but no lasting effects.

Dd4 stopped breathing a lot during the 1st 3 weeks but was fine after that.

Fingers crossed the Dr is now there and they are taking good care of baby xx

Smithagain · 17/01/2008 16:23

I don't know about the shaking - but my friend had a very similar delivery and her baby didn't breathe at first. They were terrified and very worried about long term consequences. He's five now - nothing wrong with him at all except an excessive obsession with power rangers.

Am joining in your prayers that all it OK.

Lomond · 17/01/2008 16:23

Hope the wee one is ok. Sending loads of love xxx

Rowlers - dd creid when she came out then went floppy and stopped breathing for a bit and she is now a happy chirpy 6 mo baby!
Thinking of you and your family

MrsTittleMouse · 17/01/2008 16:34

DD was in trauma when she was born, she didn't breathe for a (short) while, and then wouldn't cry, only grunt. 30 mins after birth she stopped breathing complete - was blue and floppy - cue crash team, emergency rescus etc. etc.
She never had ANY side effects after that first day, and has certainly made up for not crying immediately with knobs on!

Rowlers · 17/01/2008 16:34

If I could kiss you all I would!
Now that you'd want me to...
Am so hoping he turns out to be grotty and opinionated with scabby knees
Off out to pick up DD now

You're probably gone by now but... my ds needed a lot of help breathing when he was born, he was on a ventilator for 4 days, and is now a perfectly healthy gorgeous boisterous toddler. Scary I know, but am sure all will be fine.

Just spoke to brother.
SIL and baby may be going home this evening - that has to imply it's not serious and your hunches (?) about low blood sugar levels seem to be correct.
I'm so relieved.

Just had a text to say they are on their way home.
What a stressful couple of days.
While it has been comforting to hear all your stories, it has also saddened me to hear so many of you have had this stress in your lives. Am just glad all had a positive outcome.
