Has anyone ended up staying in hospital for ages due to newborn problems neonatal infection etc after birth? How did you cope mentally? Any advice would be much appreciated. I feel so depressed here everyday is a struggle just sitting around waiting for results from babies tests. I genuinely thought I would be out by Monday then a test result came back with very high infection markers resulting in further tests further waiting etc. I know he is in the best place for his recovery but I mean mentally I just don't know how to cope anymore each second feels like torture.

I’m really sorry. We were only in for a week which I know isn’t that much in the scheme of things but I do remember it as torture. I was psychologically not in a good place for a while after it. I threatened to run off a few times. I don’t have a lot of advice, other than to get as much help as you can from your visitors and tell the midwives how you’re doing. It will pass.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this, I did too and the word 'torture' sounds harsh but it's true.

My son was born with pneumonia (had been leaking amniotic fluid and hadn't realised).

10 days in a ward, no one to help and absolutely exhausted. My mental health completely nose dived and by the time we were discharged I was in a very bad place. I felt like the lovely experience of being together, going home etc had been taken away from me, along with the fact my son was in NICU so we were separated for 4 days. He's nearly 3 and I still feel sad about it all now.

I know other people have really awful situations to deal with but it's still extremely difficult.

My advice would be try and leave the room if possible for short walks, in the day try and get outside...

It's shit. But you will be home before you know it.

My thoughts are with you because it's really tough. X
