Bloody show

I had my bloody show at 11.30 this morning. I've been getting braxton hicks on and off regularly for 2 and a half weeks now. This is my seccond but my first was an emergency c section after beeing induced failed so all this pre labour is new to me!

How do I tell the change from braxton hicks to actual contractions?

How long from the show to baby?

Is there anything I shouldn't do now? Can I still have a bath?

Anything I can do to get things moving any quicker? Partners work wants him to do a job further away tomorrow and it's not sitting nicely with me so if I can be in established labour before tomorrow morning meaning he won't go to work that would be great!

Some people give birth inside a bath so yes 😉 maybe I would avoid soaps.... you can have a quick shower afterwards

Nobody can really tell you timings....

With contractiosn I never had a lot of BHs but when contractions really kick in you can't miss them 7/5 min apart 😖 I started logging the times on my phone but there are apps if you prefer

Best of luck!!! 😁

Unfortunately there's nothing much you can do to make it quicker..... (3 babies at nearly 42 weeks.......)

Maybe bouncing on a ball? S3x is the only thing that seems to have some scientific reasoning behind it, something in the sperm 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've got a sweep booked on Thursday, will that still go ahead if I haven't gone into labour by then?

Been on the ball as much as I can this afternoon! Been getting pains but no pattern to them just random probably about 5/6 an hour, some back pain and some more lower like period cramps, baby still wiggling about

Your pains do sound like pre-contraction pains. Keep an eye on them and time them, even if they're very random atm. There are apps that you can tap a button and it times each contraction/pain. Keep moving, drink plenty of fluids and do have a warm bath if that'll make you more comfy.

With dd I had a show at 9am and gave birth at 2am the next morning

From hearing other people's experiences they've had similar sort of time scales after a show, but I know that's not always the case

Been getting a lot of strong back pain and nausea, back pain would go on continuously for about 20 minutes with tightening at the front but the back pain is so strong I'm struggling to track the tightenings, then back pain would stop then start again. Is this normal? Definitely different to my braxton hicks

You can refuse (I would! Again, they don't work..... and they can be very painful)

Contractions kind of stop you on your tracks. You can hardly talk or think, they really hit you hard

But some people can have different experiences depending on the presentation of the baby. I think for some women it hurts on the back more.

I saw a super useful video years ago and suggested for the partner to press in the small of your back VERY HARD, like with all their strength. Honestly something to try 😉 it's great

Update: I woke up at 2am with pains, started timing them at 3am and they were 5 minutes appart, got to the hospital at half 5 and had the baby at 12.12pm, back to back and turned last minute came out side ways

How bloody?

I would update midwife and be guided by her rather than mumsnet
