Poo problems after c section

Not the poo troll honestly. Long term poster who has named changed for post baby stuff.

I had a c section two weeks ago and had no issues with the post birth stool checks where they checked if I was going to the toilet properly. No pain, no discomfort.

From about a week ago I began to experience gas pains and both hard and loose stools (yellow in colour) at the same time. I have had some tearing when I go to the toilet and have been in extreme pain at times sitting down. I have tried to eat a lot of fibre, drink 2.5 litres of water and generally healthily- but have noticed that it is worse when I consume something with dairy. I literally just had to run to the loo with the sweats after eating a chocolate pudding with cream- again, hard and loose stools.

has anyone had anything like this before post c section or vaginal birth? I don’t know if it’s hormones, something structural or if I have developed IBS.

I have been waiting for my midwife to come
tomorrow so will speak to her then.

Oh I really feel for you. I had something similar after DC1. Along with other issues, it put me off ever having another CS. I got prescribed omeprazole because they said the diclofenac I'd been given for post-CS pain had caused an ulcer. It did improve things. IDK about dairy though because I had similar issues with dairy about 10 years ago and have been dairy free (mainly vegan) ever since.

Are you still on any painkillers?

I did also end up with something called a rectocelle (look it up). Which they wouldn't believe for about a year as I hadn't had a vaginal birth. But it can happen after CS too.

Post CS a few years ago I had awful constipation. A few weeks after. Doc prescribed me fybogel. It's vile, but it did help, and you can just get it over the counter. I think with bf I hadn't realised quite how much water I needed to be drinking, and it had just got to a point where nothing was moving.

Added prunes to my diet. Lots of them. Does help.

Hope you're better soon, op, and congratulations on your new baby.

After my C-section lactulose was my BEST friend!

csection12 · 09/07/2022 16:08

Thanks all. My symptoms calmed down for a bit, but now any time I need to open my bowels has a run up of sharp gas pains 2-3 hours before.

midwife wasn’t very illuminating and has said it will take a few days to go down

trying to eat more fruit and have added 500mls to my water intake- will make a gp appointment next week

Not on any strong painkillers any more

Are you on iron? Even just as part of a new mum multivitamin? If so stop for a while until you become regular again.

Of course not if it's needed for anaemia!
