UCHL or Whittington Health for maternity care?

I am not overly au fait with the British health system having lived and worked here for 3 years and not required its services. Pregnant with our first and tossing up between University College Hospital London and Whittington Health for care and delivery.
Thoughts and advice very much appreciated.

I had mine at Whittington. Couple in my antenatal group (funnily enough the ones that worked for the NHS!) went to UCHL.

I felt well cared for in labour and post natally at Whittington. I also had the same midwife for all appointments prenatally. I am fairly certain they missed something prenatally that really could have caused huge issues for me had my delivery not gone the way it did, but that's likely specific to me.

If I still lived in London and was having a second, I would have another baby there. Hope some of that helps!

I had mine at Whit. I lived very close by, so was only minutes in a taxi, which was important to me.
I ended up with a side room after delivery, which was quiet. I was under consultant care. All was ok, but I have nothing to compare it to. Good luck.

I had both my children at Whittington and it isn't the most luxurious setting but I did feel very cared for. My sister had hers at UCHL and it's a new(er)hospital and she also says it's also very good. My advice would be go to your nearest hospital.

I had DS1 at UCLH and DS2 at Whitt (we live in N19).

I had a very positive labour/birth experience at both. Midwives were excellent at both.

UCLH rooms were shinier and newer, but appts were a bit inconsistent. I saw the same midwife throughout at Whitt and they were more flexible with access to their birthing centre, though the ward was a bit grim.

UCLH missed retained membranes and sent me home with a uterine infection. Whitt declined to stitch a tear which ended up granulating.

We moved hospital with DS2 because the postnatal care at UCLH was dire and I thought I'd try the alternative. It turned out postnatal care was crap there too!

Things may have changed (DS2 is 9.5!), but triple check whose catchment you fall into for postnatal care. After UCLH midwives didn't turn up for our postnatal home visits I was told to go to Whitt for next baby. Turned out I wasn't in catchment for Whitt either! We're miles from RF but in theory that would have been the alternative!

I have enrolled in the UCLH but we are now moving and will be much closer to Whittington hence my post above. Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. I'll definitely find out what catchment I am in for post natal care as I'm sure I'll be wanting advice and care. Thanks again.
