Positive vbac experiences

I know no one has a crystal ball, but I'm trying to weigh up whether to go for a vbac or elective section (had emergency one for first baby which I found very traumatic). Erring towards the side of vbac.

Can anyone tell me their positive vbac stories please, so I know it's possible? Have many friends who have had elective sections and said how wonderful it was, but haven't heard much about good vbacs.

Thanks!

I have heard many good things from friends who have gone down that route and would do it myself if I have a second baby.

From what I've heard the important thing is finding a supportive midwife / consultant who has experience with VBAC

Following as planning a vbac within the next couple of weeks! I've had a couple of friends who have done it and they both said the same things really. Don't expect that it will go exactly to plan and be the birth of your dreams but also the upside is that the recovery is much much faster (something I am very eager for as I found recovering from a c-section both mentally and physically very hard!)

I've had 4 vbac deliveries. My first was horrific which is why I only have 15 months between my first two...I knew that I wanted a sibling for my first, but knew that if I stopped to process, I'd never do it again. I was in a London hospital, went through several changes of shift over the 40+hrs it took, with hideously unsupportive midwives and had every intervention going bar an emergency section (they were prepping me when the ventouse worked....)

My second was so wonderful, 5 hours start to finish with only gas and air and thd most fabulous midwife. So we carried on - my 3rd and 4th were wonderful, easy, quick, and no pain relief with either one (my 4th arrived 7 minutes after arriving at the delivery suite, following one, almighty contraction) 😁

Good luck!

I attempted a vbac 15 months after an EMC but it failed I'll go for a vba2c next time. Join the vbac uk support group on Fb it's so so informative and women on there daily labouring or having a successful vbac with birth story

Had an awful first birth ending in an emcs, booked a CS for my second, changed my mind a few days before the section and was very stressed about it. Went into labour before the section and had a vbac with an episiotomy. It was quite a long labour but progressed steadily and recovery was easier than first time but I had a long labour then a section first time which I think is the worst option!

I've had 3 vbacs. I think it probably helps if the midwives and doctors are supportive - mine all were. I had a forceps delivery for #2 child, then 3 and 4 were completely unassisted and drug-free.

I was in pain after the vbac due to swollen nether regions and aching muscles from pushing and was given painkillers. The pain was ina different place but as bad a CS pain. But after my CS I was told that I was the only one they’d seen walking totally upright for years so I don’t think I found it as painful as most!

I’m attempting to do a VBAC (due on 23/7). How long did they say they’d wait before doing another c-section? I was told by an obstetrician they wouldn’t wait past 41 weeks but the midwives said they can wait up to 42 weeks. Thank you!

mrssunshinexxx · 13/07/2022 21:46

This is your choice @MrsHopeful88 do your own research and tell Turk what you want to do

Had ELCS with first due to position. Initially decided on VBAC for second but was actually put off by the VBAC fb forums which seemed a bit evangelical about no intervention / hospital births etc and changed mind to ELCS because I liked the idea of knowing when it would happen etc. actually went into labour 3 weeks early, textbook quick labour despite being taken by surprise and no preparation. Felt so much better than I did after section, but not sure I would feel that way if it had been a long and difficult labour.

Mamabear04 · 18/07/2022 12:31

Just wanted to check back and say I had a successful VBAC! I would say that the pain is real and I had a 3rd degree tear and lost a lot of blood buttttt the healing process is so much faster and I feel much better being able to move around and be more independent. I laboured before my c-section (found she was breech just as going into active labour) and found the labour/birth much easier but the recovery so much more hard. Even just getting out of bed was painful. If I was going to do it all again I'd choose a VBAC again!

emsyj37 · 18/07/2022 12:40

I have had 2 VBACs, both very positive experiences. My midwife (I had the same one for DC2 and DC3) said that your chance of having a successful VBAC depends on the reason for your C-section, so it might be worth asking for more information about that?
