What was your second induction like?

I had one with my first at bang on 38 weeks due to the fact DC's weight had dropped. It took days, it was painful contractions every few minutes from the first day which then slowed after a long time contracting with no further progress and then they thought I had developed sepsis. I don't really remember the latter as I was delirious from a fever but after my DC was born, the head midwife came and admitted she thought I was 'touch and go'. The midwives from the antenatal ward all checked on me afterwards to make sure that I was OK and this was a busy ward.

This time, I wanted to avoid an induction but have GD. I'm on a small amount of insulin at night, otherwise diet controlled but they've said I have to have an induction between 38-40 weeks. I'm dreading it and told them I didn't want one but they've said it's as per guidelines.

What's your experience of an induction the second time round compared to your first and what method was used?

I've only had 1 induction so can't comment on the second but I'd be querying why they think it's necessary?
Have a look at the naked doula on insta she's really good at linking thinks about your rights etc ultimately it's YOUR choice what happens, and personally I'd be questioning why they think it's necessary to induce and what are the risks of not inducing at that point x

Thank you.

I believe it is in line with NICE guidelines but worth questioning the risks and why that is.

I'm high risk with GD now too but I feel more medical intervention is likely to result in further issues or an EMCS.

Plus, they brought my due date forward based on my 12 week scan but my calendar dates put me overall a few weeks behind. I just want my body and baby to be ready if an induction is necessary. I really don't want a repeat of last time as that's what scares me most.

I had two inductions for different reasons and the labours were very different but overall fine

#1 was at 42 weeks, induced with the pessary only, which made me go into proper labour and didn't need and more intervention. He was 10lb.

#2 was at 39 weeks, because he was measuring big and I had excess fluid. They started with the prostin gel, which hyperstimulated me, so then I had the injection to slow things down. The next day they broke my waters, which ramped the contractions right up, but they weren't frequent enough so started the drip (with an epidural). DS2 was born within two hours of the drip starting. I think my body wasn't quite as ready to get started as it was first time, but once it got properly going in the right direction it was very quick!

I had two inductions as DSs were both 42wks + (18/16yrs ago). With both, had pessary at about 8pm, nothing happening until morning, waters manually broken & labour established after that.
DS1 was trickier as contractions slowed down, made to stay lying down for constant monitoring, had a drip, DS born about 4pm, bit of a slog.
DS2 was also monitored but midwife was much more relaxed about letting me move around, DS born about 2pm after 20 minutes in birthing pool, which was an incredible experience.

Thank you.

Oh I am hoping labour is straight forward and I'm out within 48 hours. Last time I was in 5/6 days.

I'd like this baby to come of its own accord, so hopefully I can get them to leave me alone for as long as possible and it'll come earlier than the induction.

It sounds like the gel is a bit more productive than the pessary though (if I needed to have an induction)?
