ELCS - Cardiff University or Gloucester Royal Hospital

Hi, can anyone offer any experiences of a maternal request ELCS at either of these hospitals? And also the availability of private rooms at either hospital (happy to pay) First child and don't tick the two or more "high risk factors" so I will have to argue my case and as this is likely to cause me quite a lot of stress and anxiety, I just want the most supportive trust.

I'm currently with Gloucester but can switch over to Cardiff.

Looking at the birthrights website research on this, Gloucester seems the best bet, however I plan to spend the few months after the birth in Cardiff and so am wondering if I should move, especially if the quality of care is better - quite hard to tell as the Welsh NHS doesn't provide the same CQC info as the England NHS.

I can't find much anecdotally, so would really welcome any experiences! Thanks

Can't comment myself, but a friend of mine has just moved to Gloucester hospital with only about three weeks to go to her ELCS after a bad experience with the Welsh NHS (not Cardiff). Hers is a second section though so didn't have to fight for it. She was advised by Birthrights and really valued their advice.

CQC isn’t a thing in Wales and monitoring is done differently.

There are no private maternity options in Wales. Private rooms are rare and first come first serve. My DD was born at a relatively quiet time but no individual rooms were available. I was on a ward with 11 other women (coming and going/chaos) for 3 days.

I didn’t have a C-section, but I did get a side room to myself after my last birth at Cardiff Hospital. I got lucky.

No private upgraded rooms though, just standard NHS, and was a very basic room.
