This is for my sister

Hey ladies,
Just some advice really. My sister is due my baby niece tomorrow. However my sister is petrified because baby is weighing a lot already.

I've been telling my sister to walk up and down stairs to try and push baby along but still no help. Then I told her to eat some fresh pineapple(whether that will work or not).

Her midwife told her that the only date they have to induce her in is 3rd June which her sons(my nephews) bday and she doesn't want that.

Any advice please I would really appreciate it

Acupuncture worked amazingly for me

I was ten days over, though, so a bit different from your sister - DS was showng no signs of going anywhere and hospital was strongly recommending induction.

I went for acupuncture and went into labour that evening, DS was born next day without induction (or pain relief apart from paracetamol as by the time we got to the hospital we were too late for it!)

@CorsicaDreaming aww bless ya... did it cost a lot? You are good with no pain relief. I had my son 5 months ago and had gas and air

The cost can be very variable as sometimes it is one to one and sometimes they have clinics with lots of beds in one room and one acupuncturist for everyone like they do in China.

So £20-£40 per session depending on area / individual or group. I've done both

But if it was for a one off induction session I'd try and go for someone who specialises in fertility issues. A local IVF / fertility clinic may well have contact lists as it is frequently recommended to support fertility treatment too.

There is no way of knowing how big or heavy the baby is before they are born, they do estimates at scans but they can be 30% inaccurate either way (the sonographer told me). I was told my baby was already weighing 8lbs 8 oz and would likely be 9lb 8oz when born, and that her head diameter was 100th percentile and she turned out to be a very average 7lb7oz when born with an average head. So tell your sister her baby may not be particularly heavy at all.

Also important to know is the size of the baby does not impact the likelihood of difficulties or interventions during birth, studies show.

@Msmbc thanks for sharing. I recently had a baby myself and the sonographer was way of measurements. They told me my son was weighing 6lb15oz. 2 weeks later I had him and he weighed 9lb6oz. So I do u feta yams what you mean. I think my sister is just very scared at this point. I have tried to reassure her but I don't think it's working. My sister due date is today and still no sign of baby. I have to say this is the first baby In the family to actually go full term

No advice re size but just to say that if they do induce on the 3rd she may not give birth on the 3rd. I was induced a couple of weeks ago, started with the pessary on Sunday night and baby arrived Thursday afternoon - it was a marathon not a sprint!

Everyone is different and she may go quicker, but I think a lot of indications take days rather than hours. Best of luck to your sister.

My midwife told me the only Way to bring it on is energetic sex …from his side!! Never tried it tho

jadey1991 · 25/05/2022 19:32

@Ruibies thanks for your advice hun. Apparently they don't want her going over 42 weeks. So I'm not sure what they will intend to do

@lanesra01 yes I've heard this too but unfortunately my sister isn't with the baby's dad. He is a totally arsehole but that's a different story
