Being induced in 2 weeks at 39 weeks as they think he is a big baby. Everyone in real life is telling me all about their negative induction experiences so really just want some positive ones to get me through the next 2 weeks pretty please 🙏🏽

I have had 2 Inductions and both different. The first was a pessary, they had to break my waters and I had the hormones drip which was a long labour. The contractions were very strong but pain relief helped. The second was just a pessary and the labour was fast and natural only relying on gas and air. Both were bearable so good luck!

I had one a couple of weeks ago for my second baby. I was induced at 37 weeks because my waters leaked a little at 34 weeks.

When I went in, they examined me and I was 0cm and they gave me the gel. They then said I had 6 hours until I would go to the delivery ward. Contractions started pretty much immediately after the gel was given at 18:30, and carried on until I was moved to delivery at 1:30. They weren't painful at this point.
In the delivery ward, they gave me antibiotics (because my waters had broken a couple of weeks before) and examined me at around 3am. I was 2cm and there were waters bulging in front of DD so they broke them at around half 3. Because the contractions were continuing they decided I wouldn't need the drip.
After my waters were broken the contractions became more painful and I started using gas and air. At half 4 they examined me and I was 4cm which was a bit depressing but they said it would be quick, and at half 5 DD was born after 5 mins of pushing.

It was 11 hours from the gel being given to DD being born, and for 9 of those the pain was pretty mild and I didn't need any pain relief. The last two hours it ramped up quickly but I managed with just gas and air. It was much much better than my birth with DD1, if I could pick one to go through again it would 100% be the induction even though I was so nervous beforehand about it.

Dc3 was an induction and was born 8 hours after the pessary when in. 10lb 9oz.

contractions were intense but that could have been down to their size rather than the induction…

I've been induced for being overdue twice. It was nice having a good night sleep and labouring during the day. Both times the pessary was quickly effective and although the contractions were intense, gas an air was sufficient. All ok and both mine were over 9lb.

I was induced at 38 weeks due to high blood pressure. Pessary, then 6 hours later they broke my waters - intense contractions came on fast, 6 hours later DD1 was born. Painful, but efficient! Not the horror story I was expecting from induction, but I think it is true that the worst tales are the ones people tell.

good luck, you’ll be fine!

I was induced with first DD as she was 9 days overdue. Had the gel, waters broke naturally and then had a 6 hour labour. Was back home with DD exactly 25 hours after arriving at the hospital to be induced.
Good Luck Flowers

I was induced at 38 weeks. He was born on the toilet because after they broke my waters he was born 17 minutes later. 3cm to baby in 17 minutes is pretty positive 😅

With my first I was induced with the hormone drip (as waters had broken but I didn’t go into labour naturally). It was very intense but over in a few hours and managed (just) with no pain relief. I left the hospital 24 hours after they started the drip.

The labour was painful (isn’t it always) but baby and I came out of it healthy and happy.

My first baby was induced due to ivf pregnancy. I was on my own due to covid. Pessary in at 10am. Was uncomfortable putting it in but manageable. Had mild contractions at 6pm. Period type pain 11pm more mild contractions. 1am waters went spontaneously. 2am scrubs labour. DS born at 6.30am. Very positive overall

Good luck

Induced with all 3 of mine , most recent induction 9 months ago; I went in at 2pm, first pessary 4pm, second pessary 10pm, I got a few twinges in this time here and there, tried to get some sleep shortly after second pessary and got some slight contractions these went away and then picked up around 3.30am and became stronger and more frequent, 2 hours later at 5.30am I called the midwife potentially wanted some paracetamol she asked if she could check me, I agreed and she did so and said let's go to the delivery suite now, baby boy was born an hour after getting into the room weighing a hefty 10 pounds , good luck! @MrsTwentyNine try not tonworry about the negative nellys.

Overall my induction with dd was fantastic. I had a pessary inserted at 1900 on day 1 and dd was born at 2041 on day 2. It would have been a lot earlier (like about 1500) had they not had several emergencies and had no one available so turned the drip down to slow my labour.

The hardest bit was being nil by mouth and dd's dad sat scoffing toast, cakes, chocolate and whatever else the midwives and support team rustled up for him..oh and the bottomless cups of tea.

The only issue I had was an allergic reaction to the pessary (very very rare and linked to am allergy to a pain medication) but they were amazing and found me a water bath to sit in til my vagina stopped feeling like it was on fire.

I've had two inductions. Both started with gel pessaries. Both had ARM once I got on delivery suite. Both had contractions started by the drip.

First induction had a vaginal birth after 11-12 hours on the drip with gas+air and diamorphine. Incredibly positive.

Second was an emergency C-section. I cannot empathise enough that it was nothing to do with the induction, and it was an emergency in name only. Baby was fine. I was fine. Baby was badly positioned in a way that vaginal delivery was impossible, so labour progression was very slow. Of the two inductions themselves, it's actually my favourite. I was moving around, trying different positions, and very much in control throughout. The birth itself might not have gone the way I wanted, but I still found it such a positive experience.

Best of luck for your induction!

I was induced at 38 weeks. Cervix so unfavourable they couldn't do a sweep. First pessary at noon on Thursday did nothing. Second one at noon on Friday I started feeling some twinges. Woke up at 2am and went to the toilet and he was born 45 minutes later.

Good luck!
