C section or induction - big baby

Hi everyone, really appreciate any advice, this is my second, induced on my first at bang on 40 weeks, 9.8lbs, was just cut, had tares and grases. I am now 37 weeks, baby apparently 8.8lbs at last scan and they want to induced next week or c section at 39 weeks, I have so far opted for c section but worried about milk coming in and lung clearing etc, I always wanted a natural birth... any suggestions would be amazing, can't sleep and worried about making wrong decision... thank you so much

Ok I have 6 kids and have had a variety of births I would absolutely choose a planned c section over an induction (which can lead to emergency c section anyway) have had both and planned was so much better for my mental and physical recovery, I felt more in control.

If you've had a successful vaginal birth of a large baby before, you're pretty likely to have the same again, so a slightly earlier induction is a very reasonable option. My DS1 was 10lb at 42 weeks so with DS2, who was measuring even bigger, I was induced at just past 39 weeks and had a fairly straightforward birth with him (2nd degree tear both times but healed well). He was 9lb12, so I dread to think how big he'd have got if he'd stayed in to 42 weeks like the first, but glad I didn't go for a CS.

Thank you so much for this info, I am feeling like induction is for me as been there, done that, but just worried about how big baby will actual be and shoulders coming out etc... Scan says 11.2lbs on due date. I really don't want a c section...

I've had two planned csections. Both fine. No lung problems. Breastfed both, first for 16 months and second still going at 11 months. I found both sections very calm and painless. Recovery is tough - and wound infection for the first, cleared with loads of sudacrem (antibiotics did nothing), and second was hard as I had a toddler running around and moving for the first couple of weeks was hard. Despite this, I would always choose the certainty of a planned csection- anything to avoid emergency csection, forceps, tearing etc.

I think I will go with a c section for peace of mind. Thank you x

Remember scans can be very inaccurate. They told me at 37 weeks that DS was 7lbs. He was born a week later at 9lb1.

DD was 9lb3 and I had a water birth without even a graze (had a third degree tear with DS)

If you've birthed one big baby chances are you can do another one.

I'd sit tight on the c section and perhaps only do it if you get to 40 weeks.
